Help - what is the best white elephant gift you have received or witnessed as a good item. Trying to find something funny and off the wall. :rotfl::rotfl:

Last Christmas at our Ladies Christmas Party through my church, one of the white elephant gifts was house shoes made from maxi pads.:lmao:

I went to one at work and the Dept. Principal ended up with a pair of Womens size 11 shoes. He was quite embarrased.

I myself gave one of those talking fish that hangs on the wall... my father thought it was a good gift for me. :confused3 So, off it went!

DH got a goldfish bowl, food, a net, and...you got it...a REAL goldfish at his office's Yankee Swap. We went for a week to WDW so we had to get a fish sittter.

I work in a nine-person office, and we have a white elephant with staff/spouses at our Christmas party. The two hottest items have been a button like the Staples "yes" button except it says male cow/excrement and an inflatable wife.

Do you have a Christmas Tree Shops by you? I got a toilet seat cling (like a sticker type thing) that goes on top of the lid with these sappy looking cats on it. I can't wait until Christmas!!!

I took 2 bottles of wine that we received as gifts since we don't really drink.

Then.. I came home with a wine rack. :rotfl2:

Dh has these every year. This isn't for everyone but fits his personality.

One year he had me get an 8x10 print of a photo of him (did one of those free 8x10s from Walgreens). He autographed it and we put it in a frame from the dollar store. For a buck he gave away a personally autographed pic of himself. Everyone thought it was a riot.

Another year he had me design a new label to put on a bottle of wine. I used a large shipping label and designed a new label with his photo on it. The brand was "XXX Tonic" and I wrote an outrageous product description on it. Along the lines of "the more you drink the better everyone will look" and other joke type lines. We had the wine sitting around the house and the labels left over from a project years ago so it really didn't cost us anything at all and again, it was a hit.

Someone got a battery-operated pig last year. It had a santa hat and red vest on. When it walked, it oinked, and if you pull it's tail, it squeals! It was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!
I found one marked down after Christmas, so that's going to my other exchange. I also have one of the flying screaming monkeys to give, and a car decorating kit I found (stuffed antlers and red nose for a reindeer).

I should add, if I buy something for a white elephant exchange, I never pay more than $3 for it.

The best gift at our WE exchange last year was a box of candy with a bite taken out of every single piece!

I *love* that.

I don't have any ideas, but I would really recommend that the hosts of this make SURE that everyone knows what a WE party is all about. Hubby had a work WE party he attended, and about half of the people didn't know what it was (and apparently can't google) and bought real gifts. One of those people was the one that hubby (who had been told by me what it was, as he was one of the clueless, and he doesn't need google since he has me) exchanged with, and he felt SO bad when he got a real gift and she got, well, a white elephant. :headache:

One year, I worked in an office with several ladies and one man. One of the women I worked with got a pair of panty hose at a dollar store (it had three legs, lol) and she gave it to our male coworker. We all laughed for days.

Is a White Elephant similar to a Yankee Swap? We did a Yankee Swap at work last year and the gifts varied a lot - some people brought in gag gifts & some people brought "real" gifts.

I bought a necklace at a garage sale that had 9 ivory white elephants.

Took it apart, threw away the chain links and had 9 white elephants for white elephant gifts.

A nice tacky holiday sweater. :rotfl2:
I think there was a thread about this last year. People were finding them at Goodwill and had a tacky holiday sweater party. :lmao:

At Big Lots the other day, I saw this figurine of Santa bending over, leaning his rear end over a campfire. You push a button and he says something about his buns freezing. The funny thing was he does this gyrating movement while he says it, and he's stooped over very awkwardly. Additionally, there was a reindeer directly across from his gyrating buns, which made for a very unusual vignette. I had to look for a couple seconds to make sure it wasn't XXX rated! My friends and I had a good laugh over that one!
