Whispering Canyon review (the skillet!)

We just returned and I wanted to chime in on WCC, as we have never been there but it's been on my to do list for many many years.

We were there for lunch, and I really enjoyed the setting. I had the skillet. DD8 had the kids skillet (ribs) and DH had a burger.

DH seemed to like his burger and his fries looked good.

DD8 who hates mashed potatoes had them substituted for a very nice bowl of green beans and carrots.

I loved the coleslaw, beans and cornbread. The ribs were quite good, but not the best I'd ever had. I picked at the chicken and it was ok. I didn't try the sausage since I'm not a big fan of that sort of thing. Mashed potatoes were awful. They looked like wallpaper paste, shiny and gooey, and tasted as such.

Corn on the cob tasted fresh, but wasn't very sweet. I suspect I'm spoiled coming from Colorado where our summer corn is like juicy bits of crunchy candy.

All in all, if I were really hungry, I'd order this again and ask for ribs only. I would also ask for fries or a different side instead of the mashed potatoes.

I'll be staying at WL in August and I was debating whether or not to make an ADR. It just worked out that we'll have to go there for breakfast. But it doesn't sound like dinner was was a "must do" though so maybe that is ok. I'm also nervous about going there with my sister because of the antics of the servers. Did you find them to be over the top or were they ok? My sister is not a real joiner when it comes to that stuff!

Our server was quite reserved and not into the antics, but some of the waitstaff were quite animated! I think they can size you up and know when to turn it down a notch. The boy (I'm guessing around 12) at a table nearby had a spikey hairdo and the waiter stuck about 10 straws into his hair.
