Whispering Canyon Review Anyone?

We are making our first trip to WDW with our 2 children, DS age 2, and DD age 4. Is the Whispering Canyon a good place to eat dinner?

I would also love any feedback. We are doing a last minute trip with our three kids (ages 4, 5, and 7) and this was one of the few open ADRs!

My 5 year old loved it last year. She had lots of fun with the pony rides, loved the milkshakes and ate a good meal. we will return again this trip.

Be forwarned, This is a loud restuarant and very interactive. Part of the appeal is that the servers "interact" loudly with guess. Not the place to go if you are the shy type because you may end up being the center of attention.

I agree with what the others have said. Part of the charm is that it is loud and interactive. The servers are not afraid to bring attention to you...be forewarned if you ask for ketchup. But I have always had great food the kids like getting involved and you can't beat an all you can drink milkshake.

We have been there twice and love it. The servers are very fun. My kids (8, 5, 2) can't wait to go back. They have the kids do a horse ride around the restaurant (on horse heads on sticks) - I am sure your kids would enjoy this. Also the food is very good - especially if you like Barbecue.

We went last year if we were returning for two weeks or more we would go again, for one week it just doesn't meet the standards of some of our other favourites.

If you have never been definitely go but don't be disappointed if you don't get to join in all the fun, some of the servers are definitely keener to play on the ketchup and straws etc. than others.

The skillet is fabulous but the restaurant is loud.

We went in 2005 after reading many reviews here. My kids were 12, and 9. Personally we didnt care for it. I must say tho, everyone is different and I am glad we tried it. We just wont be going back.

My DS7 and DD5 really enjoyed it - as did my husband and parents! The food is fine, not spectacular, but perfectly acceptable. The atmosphere is fun and fairly loud. We'll be taking friends there on our trip this fall. Plan to laugh and not take yourself too seriously.

My family enjoys Whispering Canyon. The food is good (not great). You can order a "skillet meal" where they just keep bringing BBQ ribs, chicken, sausage, and peel and eat shrimp. The portions are huge. As others have said, it is loud; however, that is part of the appeal. I have also found the service here to be superb. Ask for "Right Neighborly" aka Chris. He's amazing.

It's a fun place but definitely not for the shy or easily embarrassed, even if you aren't there with kids. Hubby and I are fortunately not shy types. Here's an example: One time when hubby paid with a charge card, the server returned to the table holding it high in the air and announcing, "It went through! Can you believe that his card finally went through?" I had fun ribbing him about that.

Just went on Easter and it was our least favorite of the trip. I'll eventually post my TR with dining review - but I can't remember if I took pics of the food there. Anyways, my mom and I had the veggie enchilada and didn't like it, my brother had shrimp and didn't like it, but my dad did enjoy his skillet. We were stuck in the back with a server who was never around, so not only did we not see any of the interaction but we were never part of it. I guess if you want to try it and don't want to be center of attention then ask to be seated in the back, but if you DO want to be involved then ask to sit in the main dining room.

We ate there twice last August. We stayed at the WL and didn't have any reserva6ions so I thought we try it considering all the greaty reveiws that I read. The first time it was just okay, boderline ok. The second time it was awful and very, very loud.

Great atmosphere and kid friendly. The servers are loud and will play tricks on you. Or call attention to you. Couple examples... After a long day, we went for dinner. My dad was thirsty and drank his diet coke fast. They brough a refill and he drank that fast. Our server asked him if he wanted a refill and then brough out this HUGE mug. That's not the best part though...he then proceeded to tell everyone to not ride any rides with him later because he's drinking a lot and could have an accident.

It was priceless.

They do other things like the ketchup gag and if you pay with credit card...they announce to everyone that you lucked it. It went through.

All kidding aside, the food is good too. We usually get the skillet breakfast because it's awesome. Heck, we get the skillet dinner too. Ribs, chicken, etc... Be prepared to be there at least an hour though. That is the only drawback if you have kids. We had to take my daughter up to our room last year and get her a short little nap and have her eat later because she just couldn't get through dinner...

OK, we went on Tuesday night of this week. it was the end of a long day (getting up at 6am for 1hr drive, then full day at the park, check-in at Poly, trip over to WL) for my three kids (4, 5, and 7). I thought it was fair.

The food (we ordered the skillet) is decent. Not a tremendous amount of flavor, but hearty and certainly plentiful!

The service was fair. Our waitress was very friendly and the kids enjoyed all the goings on (at one point two waitresses were making a love connection between 11-12 year olds across the restaurant, which my 7 year old thought was hilarious!). I got picked to hand out certificates to kids, and was definitely NOT angling to be in the spotlight. Hee!

But I thought it all seemed sort of forced. We've eaten several times at Ohana, which is similar, but the staff seemed more genuinely into it.

I agree that it depends on your personality. My DD (7) would hate it. We've been to a similar (but much milder) place at the beach where we go in the summer and my daughter was so nervous that they would play tricks on her and she hated the noise level. Some would say it would be fun but others would say it is dining in chaos. On the other hand, my nephew who is a little more adventurous would love WCC and would totally get a kick out of the stunts. I suggested WCC to my sister for their next trip. I'd be more concerned about the atmosphere than the food (I've heard it's great).
