Whispering Canyon Question

I would like to eat at the Whispering Canyon, if only to see the the Wilderness Lodge. Artist Point menu doesn't really please me but I'm a little concerned about Whispering Canyon. My husband HATES "audience participation" (for lack of a better term). If we are very quiet and look meek and humble will they pick on us? If I warn poor hubbie not to ask for ANYTHING or make eye contact with anyone are we safe? Obviously I'm being sarcastic, but he seriously doesn't like this stuff. Can I ask when we are seated to be left out of the fun and just be observers, or will that just make it worse? I've always wanted to eat at the 50's Prime Time, but can't for fear he'll be humiliated. Fun for me-bad for him. He is making a "mercy" trip to WDW for me and I want him to have fun inspite of himself. HA

I feel your pain! My DH is easily humiliated and I've really been wanting to eat there. By the way, 50 PT- our "cousin" asked us if we were easily embarrassed and I answered that I wasn't, but DH is, and also easily angered if they push it. We were gently reminded about elbows on table, etc., but nothing loud and embarrassing. Good luck!

I can tell you that we ate they last May and my husband would have died if they made a spectale out of us, so I just didn't tell him it was a possiblitiy. My suggestion is to go right when they open. Our PS was for 5pm and we sat right down. They pretty much start seating everyone right at 5, so they were almost too busy to tease us too bad. Our waitress made a few "comments" but didn't yell and bring attention to our table, she was too busy getting drinks and orders from everyone all at once. When everyone got seated and was eating, they started picking on people but it was mostly the tables with like 6 or more people, and those with kids, and by then we were pretty much done!

We've been there a few times and have never had a big scene made around our table. The servers tried to be a bit "cute" but only addressed to our table. No big deal. If they try to start something, tell 'em you're there for food not antics.

WCC does have a couple of designated "non-participation" tables. You can ask for one of those when you check in at the desk. Or just ask the CM or your server to keep things "mild" at your table. They usually understand that not everyone is into this kind of "fun."

I loved the "antics." My fav. was when a server shouted out to the whole restaurant to keep it quiet because someone at the table next to us was talking on her cell phone. there's a lot of that, but you need to be in the mood for it.

the rest of my family was not happy with the "environment." DD7 almost lost it when our server commented about how well (or not well) she was finishing her macaroni. DD10 was quite in shock when she asked for ketchup and she refused to stand on her chair as instructed. no one else at the table was willing to do it for her (i would have, but am physically unable). none of my kids chose to participate in the stick horse race, etc., etc.

the final vote was that it was a waste of $90 (because of the 4 others in my party). I'm sure I would have absolutely loved it if i was with the right people.

because of this, we later skipped 50's prime time cafe. more customer participation. i can't wait to go back with other people....

If you want to check out the Wilderness Lodge and want to have a destination when you get there, the Territory Lounge is a nice bar near Artists Point. We've stopped there several times when we've been early for a PS at Artists Point and it has a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.

My kids and I are big hams and are the first ones to volunteer for the kind of antics you see at Whispering Canyon or Prime Time Cafe (my DW is less so, but she humors us), but I can see how some people might be uncomfortable with it.

We stayed at the WL this past September and ate at the WCC two times. I am also not a big fan of the extra curricular activities that can go on at WCC. As another poster mentioned, you can request to sit in the "quiet" tables, which is seperated from the main dining area. While you will be left out of the crazy stuff that goes on in the main dining area, our waitress tried to "play" with us a little bit. You'll notice that many of the CM staff here just have that type of personality that goes along with WCC, and they can't help themselves to be overly colorful.

On a side note, I was absolutely surprised how good the food was. I expected the draw to this restaraunt to be the dining room activities and the food would be mediocre. The food was actually very very good.

I would recommend going, ask for the quiet table... It'll be worth it!

The servers don't pick on guests like they do at Prime Time. WCC is more upbeat and loud (lots of hootin' and hollerin') with group participation focusing mainly on the kids. My husband's very shy, but even he didn't mind getting up with the rest of the restaurant's guests to show a tour group from Sweden how to do the hokey pokey! The fried chicken is excellent. Just don't ask for a spoon!

We dined at WCC a few years ago. The humiliation we witnessed was totally uncalled for and we will never return.

Personally, I hated WCC. I would have rather eaten dinner next to a roaring jet engine! However, DS5 loved it, so I guess that's all that matters.

I'm not a big fan either. Even if you can avoid the antics yourself, you still are forced to hear and see all of it--amounting to "virtual participation".
How will DH react when all the kids go on their stick horsey ride around the restaurant?? OR when the servers start pounding the serving carts on the floor to make it sound like horses coming thru?? Or when the servers start throwing napkins and straws at the guests?? Or when servers start screaming "Catsup" at the top of their lungs?
All that can (and has) happened at Whispering Canyon. Do you REALLY want to put him through all that?
