Whispering Canyon "joke suggestions"

They really DO some of this stuff? :crazy2: I'd read about this place, but I honestly didn't believe it. I enjoy having a good time (I loved Farrell's back when they brought out the base drum at every opportunity), but this is just WAY over the top. I think we can take this one off our list of "try eventually" places.

I can see why people might complain, at least if they didn't know ahead of time. If somebody told me I had to stand up and do the Hokey Pokey, or move to a different table to sit with strangers, it would be a memorable occasion indeed -- and not in a good way.

Why? Lighten up it is vacation, time to bring out your inner child and have fun! If my too cool 15 year old is willing to get up and do it, then cmon because THAT'S WHAT IT"S ALL ABOUT!:dance3:

If you dont want antics then I suggest crossing off 50s Primetime off your list, although our server did not do the schtick but I did see someone get a bib and another person get put in the corner in the other room

We've crossed both off our list. We were seated in the back room for a later dinner and it was too noisy for us. Won't be back. Did 50's PT and the food was horrible. Too much fat and gristle in the pot roast.

We don't like to play games when we're hungry. We want to eat and be gone.

I always get ice tea and when she brought to me I drank it right down as was so thirsty (it was in a pint ball jar) so when she came back I explained to her to keep her from running and refilling my tea as I was so thirsty would she please bring me a large iced tea...WELL here she came with a gallone ball jar full of iced tea.... was so funny. they may (not sure) do that with all large drinks not sure

Those in the know who wanted a good, but quiet WCC experience used to ask for a table in the back, behind the fireplace... do they still do that?

When I was there in late May with my 6yo niece they were going to put us back in the quiet area but the hostess asked me if we wanted quiet or fun. It was our first time there but I had read a little about it so I said the fun section. DN had a blast. We had a good server and everybody seemed to be into having fun.

This year, in August, My best friend and I went, it was the BEST experience! It was for dinner, we had he coolesf server. (Sorry, forget his name! :-() He's the one I'd seen before that heckles guests and does bird noises.

First, my BFF was sitting down as I went to the restroom, the place was full so I had to try to find her... when I did, he pulls my chair out, next to my bff. "Cause you were late I sat you right in the middle so I can watch you! How could you leave your friend alone?! You get to sit right next to her so you can gossip!" Through dinner he would poke our shoulders and disappear before we could catch him. One time, I sas him sneaking up and he was like "wasnt me!"
We got the skillets and when we ordered more cornbread, he brought us TWO LOAFS! More water and my friend got a tiny cup with a large straw. When my friend (who doesn't eat a whole lot) didn't reorder... he deamed her "high maintenance" in a funny tone which had us cracking up. We took part i the Hokie Pokie, teenaged kids thag "misbehaved" were forced to do the pony races alone. LOL!!

When we ordered dessert he brought one spoon. "Sorry, too tired to wash another one... just share!" And then he walked around and gave us another.

It was a greaf time and I left him a VERYh good tip.. which, when he saw, he huddled between us... "you wanna come back later?.... seriously thank you and enjoy your time here."

So there you go! Different takes. :-)
Jackie

That was Dirk. He gives it his all and he is very entertaining.

If you don't like loud and crazy, don't go to Whispering Canyon.

We've been twice at dinner and it's just the two of us, DH and me. Both times, they sat us in the middle of the action but kind of left us alone, which was fine with me. We really enjoyed watching all the antics. The most we experienced was I downed my iced tea very quickly and I got the huge jar. When my long manufactured straw broke, I asked for another and I got a sigh, a roll of the eyes, and a comment like, "Do you really think I have all day to make straws for you?"

I did leave a little song about asking for ketchup with our last waiter. He thought about asking me to sing it, but he decided not to.

To the tune of "Clementine" which is why I will now be sued:

We need ketchup! We need ketchup!
Oh we need some ketchup now!
Our fries are getting lonely,
So we need some ketchup now!

Thank you. Thank you. Be sure to tip your server. I'll be here all week.

This is the simple solution that would please all patrons. Some people don't enjoy interrupted meals & don't find the schtick humorous. WCC is the only casual sitdown restaurant at WL. It's not right to say, if you don't like being picked on, don't eat there. You should be able to enjoy a meal in your hotel. The same goes for 50's. Many people would like to see the restaurant, but don't want to be picked on & made to eat their veggies in order to do that. All they need to do is ask the guest what type of experience they prefer & relay that to the servers. They wouldn't need to tone down the antics for those who enjoy it, & wouldn't upset those who don't.

I have stayed in several WDW hotels and have not been able to eat there, Beach Club and CR. I have not been able to get in Cape May Cafe, in fact one time the place was closed for rehab. And I cant just walk up to Chef Mickey's and eat there just bc I am staying there.

Thanks for the warning! We won't be going there, either. Once again, the DIS has helped me to avoid a bad experience. :thumbsup2

Yes, it's vacation! That's exactly my point. Vacation should be something that you enjoy, and I don't enjoy wait staff being pushy and demanding, even if it's all supposed to be in fun. I don't consider being made the center of attention as fun, but rather as public humiliation. That's why Mrs. Tex and I NEVER let on when one of us is celebrating a birthday in a restaurant if we have even an inkling that they make a production out of it.

We have a limited time to be in WDW, and we want to maximize our time. Like a PP said, we're not going to park eateries to be entertained; we're going to get something to eat. That's why we have only one breakfast ADR, and only two dinner ADRs (both after 9:00 pm), in a four day stay. WDW isn't about restaurants -- it's about the parks.

I have WCC planned for DS's 11th birthday lunch. I'm planning on having a cake delivered to the restaurant. Has anyone seen special stuff done for birthdays?

Not being able to get an ADR or a restaurant being closed is different from not being able to eat in a restaurant, because you feel uncomfortable with the antics. There's no simple solution for a restaurant being booked sold. Obviously, if it's closed, you can't eat there. It would be easy for WCC to accommodate diners who want to have a relaxed meal with good service & nothing more. To force diners to leave their resort to eat, because they don't want to be made fun of is ridiculous. There's no reason why guests who like the interaction can't continue to have it, & those who don't can't have a peaceful meal. That would stop the complaints & they wouldn't need to temper the antics. It doesn't have to be one way or the other. When possible, compromise is always the best action.

They could eat at Artist Point or Roaring Forks, they are not shut out. They can hop a boat to CR etc. The restaurant is not that big, it is very open, so it is hard to keep it quiet, if you want a quiet meal, this isnt the place for you. Even if you are seated in the back you can still hear servers yelling for kecthup or hear the Hokey Pokey. You can hear all that from the lobby. People complain about the place and complain about the chaos around them. I mean you can choose to eat there or not, you can ask for them to seat you in the back or to skip your table with the antics, but dont let your need for a quiet meal squelch the fun for the rest of us. We trek it all the way there for the fun, for us that is specifically WHY we go there. My point is that I am not asking Cape May Cafe or Chef Mickey to accomodate my family's need for a quiet meal, even if I am staying there. If I want breakfast at Cape May and I dont want the craziness that goes on at character meals, I am not asking them to accomdate us, we go elsewhere to eat. The same with Chef Mickey, if I dont want a meal that involves waving my napkin with Goofy, I am not asking the napkin waving to stop. My family will need to venture elsewhere despite the fact that we might be staying at these resorts. It is the complaints from guests eating there and not expecting this type of atmosphere that has made then tone down their schtick and I dont think that is fair to those of us who specifically go for the antics.

Ok if it is not for you, then I am glad I could help, but I love the fact that my DH allows himself to be silly sometimes. My favorite picture of him, he has a wooden cow on his head, bc he got pulled into the Woody's Roundup Dance in Frontierland and the little kids were riding horses to Coming Round the Moutain, and they were galloping around him.

And maybe for you and Mrs Tex, it is about the parks only, for us, we like that they have serious restaurants and that they have silly restuarants like WCC or character meals. Esp when my kids were younger we loved the combo of fun places to eat and we loved the parks. Now even with my kids getting older, we still do at least one character meal, and we ALWAYS go back to WCC!

First, there's a reason there are 3 dining options at WL. The other 2 options are CS & signature. We normally dine at signature restaurants for dinner, but I realize not everyone who wants a TS option is willing to spend that much money.

I find it odd that you are so adamant about pushing people away or changing their opinion rather than accepting compromise that wouldn't affect your experience at all. There will always be people who stay at the hotel, who haven't read message boards, & don't know what to expect. They could be asked which experience they prefer, or they could continue to complain until the experience is changed for everyone. If I were a fan of the antics, I'd be all for anything that would assure they remained. I certainly wouldn't admonish people for not agreeing with me & tell them to go somewhere else. After all, everything isn't about me. FWIW, we've never eaten at WL, & probably would only eat there for breakfast, if we stayed at the hotel. That said, it isn't difficult for me to see that everyone doesn't like the service as it is. There will always be people who complain, until the restaurant changes. Do you want the change to be to regular service or would you prefer offering people a choice? People are already saying the antics have been toned down. Do you really think things will stay the same, if they continue to get a lot of complaints?

What I am saying is that I really dont see how you can compromise given the floor plan of WCC...so I yes I would discourage folks from eating there. Even that back room is not going to make it a quiet experience. What annoys me is that they have changed bc of people complaining. I am not against compromise I just dont see how that would work there or any of the other places I suggested, so I would tell people to eat elsewhere, not change the tone of the restuarant but instead that is what happened.

Maybe they should ask you if you want the full experience either there or at 50s, and if not put a note with your server, but then dont complain about the hijinks around you. But to have some diners get the experience that the place is known for is kind of a bummer for them.
