I just made a dinner reservation at the Whispering Canyon Cafe for the first night of my Disney vacation. I have never eaten here and thought I would give it a try. The all you can eat skillet looks good. How is the place and how is the food? Any advice and comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just made a ressie here as well for the last night of our trip. seems like a fun place for the kids. Never been to WL so i am interested to check it out. hope its good!!!

I found these pictures.. This should help you a bit. We love Whispering Canyon, but have yet to order the skillet. My husband and son are thinking about trying it this year, though. We especially like that you can order milkshakes for your drink. Yum!

We eat there every year and love it.

We've eaten at the Whispering Canyon Cafe several times- it's very nice. :) I prefer their breakfast because it's not very loud and it's usually empty- plus I love the waffles (I stay at WL, so it's also convenient) But for lunch and dinner the waiters and waitresses are hilarious! I've had the skillet and it was delicious! A little too big for me to finish, but yummy none the less. And make sure to ask for the ketchup. ;)

Whispering Canyon Cafe is one of the loudest and wildest restaurants on Disney property. Some people thrive in that atmosphere, others recoil from it. I wouldn't eat there unless you're ready to be playful and engage with the atmosphere.

As for the food, it's definitely geared toward carnivores. The skillet is the most popular meal, and it consists of meat piled on top of more meat. Again, it's not quite my style, but it appeals to a lot of posters here on the boards. Kids usually love Whispering Canyon.

Enjoy!

We also love WCC and eat there on every trip! The only part of the skillet I don't like are the baked beans..but I'm fussy and only like Bush Baked Beans. The ribs, potatoes, cornbread and salad are to die for! It's a fun place, the WL is our favorite resort and I think you will be happy you tried it! :thumbsup2

We ate there once and didnt care for it at all...the best thing is the corn bread

We like it. I sent family there last year, one of them (grandma) hated it, I mean really really disliked it..I was so shocked to hear that. She thought it was crass and cheapo.???
It is loud, it is not a peaceful meal, but food was good and if you know what to expect and are okay with it, I think it is actually a good choice.
Hope this helped a bit...

Was thinking about doing an ADR here but read some reviews that state the food isn't great, and the atmosphere can be kind of....loud and crazy....

we are trading WCC in for a dinner at Boma...much quieter and much more our speed lol

We have eaten there a couple times and my family loves the Skillet!!! We are planning to go there on our next visit in November!

This thread has made me even sadder! I had booked WCC at 180 days out for our upcoming trip, but I had to reschedule our AK day and therefore had to cancel our reservation. I have been checking 5-6 times/day to get a ressie for dinner on May 12th ever since with no LUCK.:sad2:. This is the one restaurant that I really wanted to try on this vacation.

You could not pay us to go back -- terrible service, awful food (we had the skillet and DH got sick on the meat); I thought the potatos, beans and salad were gross (I didn't touch the cornbread as I don't like it, and I wouldn't eat the meat after the other food).

As for the entertainment, there was absolutely nothing going on the evening we went there. I have read it depends on the servers working and their mood that particular day.

I've never known the WCC to be particularly busy except for dinner time- and even then you can get a table it just may take a half hour.
Have you considered going for lunch?

Did Breakfast and Lunch here last July and will be doing both meals again this year.

Lunch~We all got the skillet, kids got shakes and adults got sodas. Cornbread was very moist and almost cake like! The rub they used on the chicken left it moist and delicious (my sister who went with us is also a chef for her camp and she adored the food here). Although the ribs were not "fall off the bone", they were still moist and delicious. Didnt eat the beans as I'm not a fan of beans but the corn and the mashed potatoes were delicious as well. When we went it was an early lunch (atleast I think it was, it might have been late, the resturant wasn't that full) and had 2 people to interact with (Chad was our server and Raphael was having fun with our whole party).

Breakfast~Loved the skillet with waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuts and gravy as well as potatos. I had a GREAT server (Chad) who came by for frequent refils on drinks as well as anything else we wanted on the skillet.
Sadly this was our last TS breakfast or I would have gone again before our flight the next morning but we left before they opened.

You will get mixed reviews from people regarding this resturant. For some it's just not their cup of tea and for other's it's a riot and a half and they have a great time.

I would rather not leave AK for lunch, so I was really hoping for a dinner reservation. We were also considering staying at Fort Wilderness a little later for the campfire activities, so a dinner reservation at WCC would work better. Is it worth trying for "walk up" seating?

Love it. We have eaten there a couple of times already. The skillet is very good - too much food actually for one person. My kids had a good time with the waiters. We are trying Sci-Fi again - haven't eaten here since 91 and then T-Rex - ate here in 99. Otherwise we have counterservice ddp.

We love WCC...it is a must for every trip. DH always gets the skillet and loves it. He also loves to interact and spur the servers on. ;) I could care less about the antics, but the food IS good there.
I always get the steak entree. They cook them properly and they have a great flavor, like a real charcoal flavor from the grill.
I highly recommend WCC.

Here are a couple pics from our last trip in Feb 2011
