Whispering Canyon Cafe - skip it?

Like most Disney restuarants the food and service is kind of hit and miss. We have been there twice. The food is pretty good and you really need to be in the mood for the antics. The meal takes a long time so Iwould book it on a night that you might be going to dtd or just exploring the resort. The boat ride back to mk is nice though. I saw give it:thumbsup2 a shot you might like it.

I think the food there is fine, but it's not the best choice if you're looking for a quiet evening. The antics the night we were there just worked my last nerve (oddly enough, I find the antics at 50s Prime Time somewhat endearing). Conga lines forming to serve ketchup just aren't my thing, I guess. But, if you're in the mood for an energetic, rambunctious dinner, it's a great choice.

We've eaten here a couple times. The food has been good, but the service for us has never been great. As a couple with no children, we weren't included in the antics, which depending on your personality can be a good thing. In our case we felt shoved off in the corner. When we went back with young kids, I guess they figured our kids were too young for the fun, so again, we were paid little attention by our server.

DH and I stayed at the WL and he decided on skipping it...he was not to keen on the menu or the noise level, man it was the noisiest place I have ever heard

This is a family fav for us...My Dh couldn't go without having a meal here. The food is good, the atmosphere is FUN, and I don't think we are there very long at all. I would take the chance on it and go...I don't think you will be disappointed!

we really like it (DS9 and I) great for kida I think, but not for a romantic dinner lol

WCC was great meal for us.

We took the boat ride over, got to check out the resort, and had fun at the restaurant.

I suppose it helps to be there with kids, but I would have liked it even if my wife and I were there alone.

My oldest son was wearing a Mickey shirt with the American (USA) Flag on it. The waitress had him stand on a chair, then we all said the Pledge of Allegiance to my son!!

My family is having a birthday breakfast at WCC. We have been here many times and you just have to understand that this is not a "quiet little restaurant".

But if fun is what you wants with your meal then by all means, don't pass up a visit to WCC.

Just don't ask for ketchup or straws...LOL

It is our family's favorite restaurant as well. DW and I would go with or without kids.

Since it is just the 2 of you going, you need to ask yourself this question.......Do you want a nice quiet meal, or do you want a fun, rowdy meal? If you vote fun & rowdy........go with Whispering Canyon.

Yeah, romantic is not the first word that comes to mind. Although it was great to get my in laws up in front of the entire place for a kissing contest on their anniv.:goodvibes

On the DDP is the food worth it - or should we try another restaurant.? It's just me and DH and we're not sure.

If you are asking about the food (only), I would say that there may be better TS choices, depending upon your tastes and diet. WCC is known for "the skillet," which is an all-you-can-eat plate of various barbequed meats, potatoes, beans, and corn on the cob. They also have less filling choices of varying quality, but this restaurant is great primarily for the experience. We think of it as dinner and a show, with an emphasis on fun for the kids. We have never visited without kids, but I think you will enjoy WCC if you are up for a good (not great) meal in an energetic atmosphere and a great setting (WL).

I have an ADR here for lunch. Do they do the "antics" at lunch too or just dinner?

This is where were going for our anniversary...I think it is noted on our reservation there too. Didn't know about this. My kids will freak out if Mom and Dad have to get up and kiss in front of everyone... :love2:

We ate there last Friday after arriving to Orlando so it was our first DDP TS meal. The food was great but the "antics" were a little annoying and the place is SUPER loud. We got a good seat off of the main eating area though which we were happy about. Our family was made to sing a Disney song to another table and considering my husband and 2.5 year old are VERY shy - it was all me. Thankfully, I got to sing with another couple. Again - fun and all if you like that kind of thing. Again, the food was great and you won't leave there hungry!

We've eaten there 3 times, the most recent one in July 06.

Our first 2 visits to WCC were in 2003 when we stayed at WL. We liked it then well enough. Our return in 2006 was not nearly as good. The food was definitely not as good as what we'd had before, our server was sweet though slow, and the antics were not that fun. We do have senses of humor in my family, and we were actually looking forward to the silliness we remembered from before. But this visit was not worth it at all.

As someone else mentioned, it's VERY loud in there, so the point that one of my kids said he wanted to leave before dessert, because he was tired of the noise. I know some people like that, but I learned my DS did not.

Anyway, while planning this trip, I asked the kids and DH for where we should return to and NO ONE mentioned WCC. We're going back to several places from before, but not WCC.

I think if you're staying at WL or really want to tour the resort, then eating at WCC is a fine idea. But I would not make a special trip there for it.

And yet they call it WHISPERING Canyon--should call it Roaring Canyon.
:confused3

If you like it a little quieter, ask for a seat in the "Library". This is an area sectioned off from the fun and noise and the servers are a little more sedate. :thumbsup2
