I am thinking of trying this place for lunch one day. Think it would be a nice break to take boat over and have lunch at a resort we admire but have never stayed at. 6 adults 3 kids ages 17, 15, 4. Any opinions appreciated.

Thank You,
Deanna

We are doing this also with WCC - will be interested in responses!

Have a great time!

We enjoyed WWC. We had dinner there, but I imagine it is the same for lunch. It is a fun place. They do stick horse races for the younger kids. They make everyone get up and do the hokey pokey. Some of our favorite things were:
if you ask for a bottle of ketchup, every waiter brings one to your table - the people across the way must of had atleast 20 bottles on their table.
my husband asked for a fork - the waitress brought out this fork that was a good 3-4 feet long. We have great pictures of him and our girls with it.
they also throw straws at you and your table if you ask for straws.

It was just a fun place. We ordered the skillets. The food was good, but we are from Texas and the BBQ didn't match up to our favorites. Next time I'm trying the ribeye (dinner only I think).

Also, look around the resort. It is absolutely breathtaking. It was kind of dark in there at night, but the place was beautiful.

Hope this info helps!

Food isn't bad. The ketchup thing got old really fast. Our waitress was boring but it could be we didn't have kids. It is definately not quite.

We've eaten lunch at WCC and, although the food was great, the service was awful and the antics were non-existent. Unfortunately, the bad service also made it very difficult to get seconds on the good food, which was a bummer. We'll probably go back again, but it's not a must-do for every trip.

We go here every trip, and always love the food, although I have to say I like individual meals rather than the skillets. That said, they use to have the best pork chops that I've ever had, and the salad is great too, the desserts are fantastic in MHO. We are not too into the antics so usually choose in the library area, just quieter. For those who love the antics or have children, they will love sitting in the main area. We are going on our next trip and I'm so looking forward to it! We are staying at POR because there is no room in the lodge, its our favorite place to stay! Enjoy our trip!!!:yay:

We love WCC. Haven't been for bkfst but we love dinner there.

Both times we went we had very good waitresses, very interactive and fun and we didn't have children with us.
The food is very good. DH gets the skillet and loves it, the ribs are just ok but everything else is superb! I get the ribeye and it is very very good, nice and tender and tasty.

I highly recommend going there, the boat ride over is cool and you get to see MK from a whole new perspective from the water.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Another question would be where exactly does the boat leave from? Also if we choose a different park that morning I assume our option would be bus?

It's actually our go to resort, last 10+ stays have been here. WCC, great place, loud with the antics, don't expect to carry on a conversation while there. Our thoughts on the meals: Breakfast is plentiful, pricey but we prefer Trails End in FW for their buffet, better priced and you don't have to wait for seconds. Lunch and dinner: Food is great, meatloaf is superb but those meals are again, pricey, I'm not one to pay 18 bucks for meatloaf, wife had it and said it was fantastic. As for me, I'm cheap and picky, I enjoyed the endless milkshake, like 6 bucks for all you want, they even gave me a roadie when leaving. We're not too impressed with the skillets but the ala carte section has good offerings, definitely worth a look see, but peruse their menu on Allears, lists meals and prices and go from there. Though we've done 43 trips to WDW, stayed on property every time and all deluxe, I still get sticker shock from the menus, best to know before hand what's there and how much.

We did lunch there in Aug 09...the food was terrible...very fatty and greasy and ick, the service was terrible and all the cool fun and games that I have heard about for years were not going on at all.

This was our experience as well. We were there for lunch at a very busy time at WDW and this place was dead, no antics, the food was awful.

Depending on where you are coming from I still recommend taking the boat from MK.
What we do is take the bus from where ever we are (usually the hotel) to MK and then transfer to the boat.
The docks are right out front between the buses and the monorail. There are 2 docks, make sure you go to the Wilderness Lodge - Whispering Canyon Cafe one.
There is a boat to Fort Wilderness and some people get confused because they are similar. (and when you have never been you can be overwhelmed).

Now back to the restaurant. As I said in my earlier post we loved it. We were able to have a wonderful conversation (was on our honeymoon). And WCC was the only restaurant to recognize this out of all the places we went and yes it was on all ressies.
WCC holds a special place in our hearts, DH loves it. We have a photo of him drinking from his "gallon" jar and it is his favorite picture out of 1000!!! Go figure! :rotfl:

I hate to a downer here but you couldn't pay me to eat at Whispering Canyon Cafe again. We gave this place 2 separate tries and it was just plain awful. I couldn't believe how greasy and fatty the food was. And it was expensive. We won't return. Our waitresses both times were boring as anything and it took us forever to catch a boat back to MK. We were staying at the Grand Floridian and it took us almost 2 hours to go from the Wilderness Lodge to MK to the Grand Floridian. I'd pass, but that's just me.
