Whirlpool tub advice needed

We are getting ready to redo our masterbath and take out the jetted tub. It is about 20 years old. We have not had any problems with it though.

We did the master bath redo about 7 years ago, put in a bain Ultra. I like it. I don't use it tons, but it's nice to have when you want a soak. It does have some kind of air thing that blows out the jets. Usually within about 5 minutes after turning it off, you hear this loud whirring noise for about 1-2 minutes, some water comes flying out of the holes, life is good. The one thing I will say about ours is that it doesn't have jets that direct at certain body parts, it has a bunch of holes that cause an overall bubbling action. I like it, but some folks might not. Make sure you actually see one operate so you know the difference between jets and the Bain style jets.

And I agree wholeheartedly with the PP who said get a sprayer nozzle to clean it. They are deep tubs and the sprayer makes it a piece of cake.

Thanks. I think I would prefer jets vs. the bubbles after reading some reports from other air jet tubs. It sounds like you get steady rolling bubbles, but not the same type of pressure as jets. There are some tubs that have both air and regular jets, so you can program your bath to be whatever you wish. I am keeping my options open....

When we went tub shopping, we went to a place that had several different models of tubs that actually worked so you could see the difference in the "regular" jets vs. the bubbling air jets. I sort of like the bubbling air jets because you feel "effervescent" all over. But, having just been in mt DSIL's outdoor hot tub today because of my aching back, it was nice to be able to direct the jets right to the spot I needed to hit! If there is a tub that has both, that would probably be fabulous!

Have you considered using earplugs when you use the tub? Maybe that would make it more enjoyable for you... if the noise was suppressed.

Better yet - get a pair cordless headphones.

Really - I'm not trying to discourage anyone. There's NOTHING more relaxing than a soak with your favorite music (on cordless headphones) and beverage in a candlelit room. I just wished there was someone to clean up afterwards.

And yeah, I agree the standing water smell only came into play after not using the tub for extended periods (several weeks or longer). Problem would have been solved if I'd just run the tub through a cycle occasionally, but after a year or so the novelty wore off (one of my many character flaws).
