Do you place the candy in the trick or treaters' bag or do you hold out the bowl and let them choose for themselves?

Growing up people always placed the candy in our bag for us, but the gals at work thought it was horrible that I didn't let the kids pick out the pieces of candy that they wanted.

They are getting free candy ... beggars can't be choosers. When I was a kid, part of the fun was going home and emptying your lot on the floor to discover the fruits of your labor.

I give each kid a handful of candy right into their bag. I've been burned with the let them choose their own method. I've had some bigger kids in the past that grab two big handfuls and run off. So if I just give each kid a handful of maybe 5-6 peices then I am in control and I don't run out of candy.

I place it in the bag, unless it's kids I know. I let them take what they want. We've had too many kids take huge handfuls when we've let them take what they want. I've tried saying you can pick one or two but they still take huge handfuls. And I usually buy chocolate and "good" candy bars, so I can't afford to give out handfuls.

I give out full sized bars and just grab whatever one comes into my hand and toss it in their bag. The only time I had to look was when some little kids comes up to the door and says "trick or treat, I have a peanut allergy so no peanut candy".... ended up grabbing something out of my daughters bag to give him cause I only had peanut butter cup, butterfingers, nutragous and snickers!

We've always placed it in the kids TOT bags..:goodvibes

Agreed. Why is everything these days about what they "want"? Half the fun of Halloween is seeing what all you got at the end of the night.

Sorry but that gets a big ol' from me. No wonder the generations coming up feel entitled!!

I don't let kids pick their candy. It takes way too long when a big group comes to the door and some kids tend to take too much. I always tell my boys that if someone lets them choose, they should take one piece unless the person tells them how many to take.

We put together small paper bags filled with candy ahead of time. It makes it easier to hand it out when a big crowd comes to the door.

We place the candy in their bags. :)

Also wanted to add that when it gets towards the end of the evening, we then just have the stragglers grab a handful (after DD's FIL has grabbed all the stuff that HE wants - LOL)..:rotfl: With all the treats that DGD gets there's really no need to keep any leftovers..:goodvibes

Wow, my son has a peanut allergy but I would have been horrified if he had put conditions on TOT candy people were handing out.

We always place it in the bag.

We just put it in the bag, no picking a chosing for us, unless it's someone we know. But if it is someone we know we usually have candy set aside for them. :)

We place it in the bag, otherwise it just takes too long with the kids hemming and hawing over the candy and pawing through the bowl. It moves so much faster by putting it in the bag, just drop it in and "move along now......."

I put it in the bag.. I dont have time to let them pick out what they want.

We have a few kids in our neighborhood w/peanut allergies. My family LOVES candy w/peanuts. I buy what my own children like & then some peanut free candy. I ask the kids if they have a peanut allergy, if yes, they get the skittles & if no, they get the reese's. I put the candy in their bag because I don't want to run out.
Happy Halloween!
