While sitting traffic due to road work....

Yesterday I got caught in road work constuction. I sat there for a half hour. As I am sitting there, every now and then a car would hop out of the line behind me into the turning lane and drive up to the front of the line and pull back into the line of traffic right at the point of where all the cones for the construction started. Now this is something that tends to make me crazy, it just is wrong! So I finally get one car away from the cones ( now about 40 minutes later), when I watch another car do the hop. I'm already thinking "don't even think about getting in front of me!", when the car pulls up. Now let me tell you I am a very tolerant driver, not prone to road rage. That being said, I have been sitting in traffic, my 5 year old and 2 year old in the back, the 2 year old had just finished her ten minute cry (she doesn't like being confined in the car), the 5 year old has just finished whining about being hungry and thirsty. So anyway, this car pulls up and the woman in it says "Can I pull in front of you, I have kids and they need to go to the bathroom." It was not I question, it was an order. I couldn't believe she said it. I told her no. She repeated in a very indignant tone "I have kids." I looked at her and told her I have kids too, no you can't pull in front of me. She looked and saw that my kids were sitting there, but started yelling at me "What do you want them to do???!!! Wet thier pants? I have kids!" I wouldn't let her go. Sorry, but I teach my kids in those situations they have to wait just like everyone else.
I guess she felt she was more important, and was the only one that was sitting in traffic with children.
I could see she got even madder when I let someone in that had just exited the highway. Hey I told you I am a tolerant driver...... just don't hop out of line and try to get in front of me.

Good job!! That annoys the heck out of me. If people would just sit there and take their turn, everything would go by so much faster. But no! They're too impatient, and have to cut everyone off even when they know the lane ends. I'm with you! I try to not let people in when they do that. I've never really had someone ask though, but maybe I don't notice cuz I ignore them. :D

I know exactly what you're talking about! We just got back from a weekend in Philadelphia. We left Philly at 3:15pm on Sunday and it took us FIVE HOURS to get to the Tappan Zee Bridge! The traffic on the Jersery Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway was horrible. We were hoping to get home by 10:30ish, but it was 2am before we pulled into our driveway. I saw drivers doing the same thing you mentioned and it was really annoying, and dangerous. A truck actually dented the side of a car that was trying to edge his way in after driving up the shoulder of the road. I would have looked at the lady like she was some kind of a nut and told her to find a bucket or something in her car and to wait like everyone else. What nerve!

I'm shocked that she even "asked" if she could. Usually these types of people just try to squeeze in. I wouldn't have let her in either.

She should carry a large cup and extra kid clothes. I cant stand people that do that and unfortunately I see it almost every morning since traffic backs up so bad...

It always amazes me that some people think that their time is more valuable than yours.

You tell them mate;) Good on your for standing your ground:D
