scared the you know what out of me!!
Between the deer, bears and coyotes, I think Tarzan is the only thing not in the woods around here.
I know most of the local farmers, but none of them have emus.
I tried to pen them in the yard, but no way, they were eating seed from my hand, but would not stay. I followed them through several yards waiting for animal control to show up, but once they got to the golf course, they were gone.
You should have heard the golfers scream.

those are emus?

they look like female peacocks to me!! (but I'm a city girl! :lmao: so I'm probably wrong)

Haha wow!

We don't have those down here in central jersey...ton of deer tho!

Not in my neck of central Jersey either. But we have fox, wild turkeys, tons of deer, and months ago, a coyote camped out under a tree in the back yard for a few days.

How neat! Thanks so much for sharing! Great pictures! :thumbsup2

LOL My dad lives is Sussex county and has a pair of ginny hen that visit daily.. no idea where they come from but they have been coming daily for over a year to eat.

We had a dear run down our street once and I am in a part of morris county where you usually dont see them in your neighborhood.. only dead on Rt 80.

Don't know why but the first thing that popped into my head when I saw your title was a snake. Glad it was something pretty. :thumbsup2

Do you have a zoo around you? Maybe they escaped? I can honestly say I have never had an Emu in my yard, cool!.

Quick, call Disney.....them legs are ripe for roasting :teeth:

I just noticed, 3 tags off ONE post, cool! That has to be a record.

I was at my dsil's house and we saw one of these birds trotting down her street. She called 911 and told them there was a 6 foot bird walking down her street. (I don't know why she called 911, he wasn't committing any felonies.) Never did find out what it was but it was one big bird.

Did animal control ever get back to you? Either someone is missing these animals or they've been abandoned. It would be awful if they were actually living on their own in the wild, exotics that are introduced into their non-native enviroment can do an incredible amount of damage...just ask folks around the Chesapeake Bay about those awful nutrias(look like muskrats, but eat native grasses, plants by the roots and have destroyed quite a bit of marshy habitat).

agnes!

That is such a hoot! The last one in the close up has a wicked grin, huh? wonder if he left you a little present in your leaves?????

Most sheep farmers have emu's in with the sheep because they keep the coyotes or any other animal that might want to get at the sheep away. I am not sure if it is because of the size or because they are very good at defending themselves.

I would guess they got away from a farmers pen.
