Dh and I are really conflicted about which week to go in October. We’ve never been in the fall so are a little nervous about picking a week. Our only main plan is to stay a week, do 2 Halloween parties, and get 3 day park hoppers. We also want to see toy story land and food and wine.

Our thoughts are either October 4-11 or October 24-31. We could play with the dates some but that’s what we came up with. We can’t be there too close to the 20 because of a wedding. We are nervous about Columbus week. Has anyone had experience with that?

We did the last week of October in 2015. Crowds were sizable but waits were not bad (usually 5-15 minutes using a rope drop touring plan). We are returning this October on Columbus Day week bc our kids have that week off school. I'm concerned about the crowds but am hoping things will settle down by Tues of that week. I'm curious to hear what other's experience with Columbus Day week has been...

See I’m a little worried about kids having school off. If a lot of local schools have it off I could see the halloween party being busy that night.

We were between the same weeks as well, but also considering early December. After looking at a few crowd calendars, it seemed like the week leading into Halloween would be less crowded than Columbus Day. I imagine MNNSHP would be more crowded during that week as it is closer to Halloween. We settled on the week leading into Halloween due to availability since we're renting points and were able to get the resort we wanted.

I think we will most likely go with that week as well. You’re lucky that you’re able to rent points. I was told the only resorts we could get a studio at are akl or Saratoga neither of which we want. We like to try a new resort each time but we found a good deal for French quarter and it’s our favorite.

We’re going the week leading into Halloween because my daughter has off school (two of her classmates’ families are going that week as well)... I think the sad reality is, there are always going to be kids off school somewhere. So pick the week that works best for your schedule, make a plan, and make the best of it!

We went the week of Oct 23-27 last year and it was great! The crowds were less than what they were on our previous trips but still busy. And the weather was perfect!

Columbus Day week will be much, much more crowded that Halloween week. A lot of schools have the full week for Columbus Day off. No schools, as far as I know, have Halloween week off.

We have been Columbus Day week multiple times. The last few times, the crowds have been very large.

Plus, Halloween week is later in the hurricane season. As we found out with Matthew in 2016, early October is still a prime time for hurricanes.

We've done both, Columbus Day and the weekend prior was noticeably more crowded, the last week in Oct not bad at all.

Go later in the month. Columbus Day week 2016 scarred me. Couldn't ride anything without an excessive wait (like two hours for it's a small world) that we didn't have a fast pass for. Not my idea of fun.

We were 10/25 -11/3 last year. Crowds, but nothing crazy at all. Weather was hit and miss (cold!), but that is NOT normal. :)

Great week, wouldn't hesitate on those dates again.

I wanted to add, if you are talking about this year, I would book soon!

We went to a Halloween party on a Halloween and the crowds were fine. We would go again.

Thanks everyone for your great replies! We will most likely go the week leading into Halloween. My birthday is soon after so that would be more fun and I was a little worried about hurricane season already. We are waiting to hear back from our ta about pricing and will go from there!

Is it just for fall break? I didn’t think anyone would have school off the week leading into Halloween.

Yep we are looking at this year! Just trying to straighten out pricing with our ta first.

We will be there from October 24 to the 30 to celebrate our anniversary and have been to Disney a few times the end of October and really enjoy it.

Mind if I ask what part of the country you’re from? I’ve never heard of having a full week off for Columbus Day!

We’re from Wisconsin. My daughter’s school always has off the last Thurs and Fri in October. Teacher’s convention, I think.

Oh I thought you meant a whole week. We will most likely go 24-31 but aren’t sure which Halloween parties to go to

I think we are just going to stay at all star music for a week october 24-31 and then are thinking about booking beach club villas for February.
