Which would you pick - WL or Poly?

We are returning to WDW for Mardi Gras next year. We are going back and forth between a couple of resorts. If you had the option, would you pick the CY view at WL or the Garden view at the Poly?

We are going to be having ADR's at both, so that is a non-issue.

While I LOVE WL (going back for free dining next month!) the appeal of being on the monorail may sway me to suggest the Poly. I have never stayed at the Poly, but hear it is amazing. If the room price is similar, I would go for the monorail!

I love, love, love the WL. I think the theming is great, I like the restaurants, and the grounds are lovely. I like taking the boat to the MK, and I enjoyed sitting on the balcony and watching all the comings and goings in the courtyard. I think the lobby is one of the most beautiful I've ever been in, anywhere in the world.

That said, you can't beat the Poly for location and, in my opinion, the relaxing atmosphere. The grounds are phenomenal. The garden views are great - even the ones that face the monorail. You can take boat or monorail to the MK and you can walk to the TTC (meaning you wait for only one monorail to Epcot). The rooms are also bigger, which is a key thing for us.

I think that if I really preferred one theme over the other, that would be the key to the decision. If you like both, and are visiting whichever hotel you don't pick to eat and look around, I'd say Poly wins for transportation options and room size.

For me, it's the Poly hands down. I've stayed at WL and love it too so it's a close second. However, if you are talking a difference of $200, I would go with the Poly for the convenience of transportation alone.

Last visit we stayed at WL, and LOVED  it. But if I had to choose between the two, I would definitely go for the Poly, especially if the price difference is only $200. The location is great, it is right on the monorail, which is a big plus, and the theming is great. Have a great trip!

I would go with the Polynesian because in the end they have better transportation and how can you not stay somewhere that is on the Resort Monorail line?

We liked WL when we stayed there back in 2003.

We love the Poly much more--no question for us. It would be Poly in a heartbeat. There are so many reasons, most of which have been noted above.

Poly...yup, Poly. :thumbsup2 I have also been to both and I also love the WL, but I love the Poly way more!!!!!!

Pat :)

I have stayed at both places twice and love them both. If I had to choose, I would vote for the Poly. You can't beat the convenience of the monorail to both MK and Epcot, and the rooms are much larger.

how are the rooms at the poly? I just loved the WL.. just curious of why you like that one more.. thanks.

Poly definitely. For me the room sizes, extra bed, monorail are all important but it really comes down to the theme for me. I love the tropical feel of the Poly. THe grounds are beautiful. I feel like I am completely relaxed.

We've stayed at both several times, and I would go with the Poly. The monorail is very convenient and the garden view is very quiet. Thw Wilderness Lodge's CY view is great for people-watching, but the transportation at WL is not as good as the Poly's.

Well, I'm in the minority, but I would say WL. Having stayed at both, WL two years ago/poly three or four years ago, at the Poly I felt ripped off for some reason, pool was way too crowded with non-resort guests, I personally wasn't all that impressed with the room (this was before they were rehabbed though), didn't like the fact that the longhouses weren't connected, GCH was always packed with guests waiting for O'hana, beach was packed at night for wishes so forget trying to get a decent spot to watch. On the flip side, I felt completely relaxed at the WL. Loved the lobby, it was always empty even in August with free dining. Loved the pool, it never seemed crowded, loved being able to walk to RF to refill our mugs, even if it was pouring outside since the whole resort is connected. After staying at WL, I told my daughter we had found our new Disney home! But, I do have to agree that if you have younger kids and will be going to MK often and returning often, the monorail is a big plus. But this is the only benefit I think the Poly has over the WL.

Thanks everyone for your input!

My DH and I have been talking about it a lot lately. He finally started warming up to the Poly when his BFF told him how awesome they thought it was when they went there for Ohana's. Go figure.

I know the rooms are bigger at Poly, and it comes with a daybed. That's a plus since we'll have five in the room. My youngest DS will only be a year old, and we can use the daybed with bedrails instead of bringing in the portable crib. This will take up less space in the room in the long run I know.

Your responses were pretty much what I expected. Trust me. I've been trying to sell it to him with the whole monorail/transprotation issue.

Thanks again everyone!

I don't have the February rates. I always look at this year's rates to try to figure out next year. It has always been about the same give or take about $100. I don't expect to see a huge jump for next year, even with the expected reservation changes that have been discussed here. Of course, I could always be wrong.;)

I would definitely choose the Poly - it's actually our favorite resort. We have stayed at WL, and it's a nice resort, but we honestly were not blown away with it.

The Poly has a special Disney magic, beautiful landscaping, great CM's, excellent transportation, bigger rooms than WL, a better pool than WL....and did I mention the monorail? Oh yeah - definitely the Poly.
