I am having trouble deciding which hotel to use for my family vacation. I want there to be no problems. Can any of you advise me which hotel would be the best pick?:cool1:

Is cost an issue ? If yes whats the difference?

I have need stayed at either. But the Poly (With the monorail) sounds great :thumbsup2

I don't know much about SOG, but I can tell you about the poly. If you have little kids, you will probably spend a lot of time at MK. If so, it's nice to be on the monorail. Also, the pool at the Poly is fantastic. It is 3 sided, so you can walk into it like walking into the ocean (except without waves). Little kids can stand in it for about the first third of the pool without going under. It also has a great Volcano water slide. You can watch Wishes from the beach, and have monorail access to other resorts with great restaurants.

So why am I staying at WL this time? Hmm.... Anyway, I love the poly!

I am a true Poly lover, HOWEVER, I have heard that the rates at SoG are great and it is lovely. I stayed there when it was still Disney Inn, years ago. If you qualify for SoG, I would stay there, unless you want the dining.

If budget is an issue than go to SoG. But there really is no comparing the Poly to Shades. Mickey does not live at SOG, and you're still in the military. I've been to SOG many times and it is a lovely hotel. But you're not at a Disney resort.

SOG is like WIlderness Lodge... but no Mickey.

Personally I would always try to stay at the Poly. The atmosphere is much nicer and more "Disney." SOG is very spread out and it's a bit harder to get where you want to go than from the Poly.

If you really need to go on a budget, though, definitely go with SOG. Then take a walk over to Poly (10 minutes) and hang out there for a meal or an evening.

But, depending on when you go (if it's a busy time), if SOG fills up you may be able to ask for an overflow rate and get a really good rate (40% off) at the Poly.

Regardless of where you stay, go to SOG to buy your park tickets. You will save some money plus there is no tax.

ive stayed at both resorts and while i love having the monorail i love sog for the quietness, the big big rooms, and while you get those perks you can walk over to the poly to hang out on the beach, watch fireworks, eat so you have the best of both worlds. and evergreens and the ice cream shop at sog is great and they have starbucks coffee :)

I've never stayed at the poly but have at SOG. Price wise SOG is great, can't get the dining plan that way. Here are some pics of SOG's room.

I maybe having this issue in awhile my folks want to go back again and last time we stayed at SOG the last 2x's I've been I stayed at a disney resort. If I can get a deal we'll stay at a disney resort. If there are no deals to be had we'll do SOG. Also the fact you can get on a bus from resort to get to the parks is nice rather then the SOG where you need to go to the Transportation center 1st.

Some other disadvantages of SOG:

No Magical Express
No Room Charging on your room key outside of SOG
(Do they have package delivery to their gift shop??) If not, then that is a disadvantage.
They charge a daily rate for parking if you drive.
No True Disney Transportation, although a quick walk to the Poly solves that.

I've never stayed there, but have visited with eligible friends and eaten at their restaurant and purchased tickets there. It seems like a pretty nice place other than what I stated above.

To me the room charge is a REALLY big deal, because that way I can keep my actual credit card put away with minimal exposure to folks seeing or chance of loss. The room key can be cancelled and reissued IMMEDIATELY if lost or compromised. Your credit card will take a MINIMUM of 24 hours to be replaced with the best companies, longer with most companies.

According to the SOG website, if you identify yourself as a SOG guest at the entrance to parking for any of the parks you will not be charged a daily parking fee.

I'm saying SOG actually charges a parking fee to park at the resort.

From the Shades of Green Website:

Q:
Is there a fee for using the parking garage at Shades of Green?

A:
Yes. The parking garage fee is $ 5.00 per day.

SOG is not as nice as Poly, but you can't beat the price. Tax free on everything is also an advantage. If money is not an issue you will enjoy the Poly much more.
