The day we arrive for a 8 night stay we wanted to keep light but still do something fun of course. We dont like to sit at the hotel long. Would you rather A,) go to disney springs and eat at rainforest cafe and get dessert somewhere.
B.) Go to late dinner at ohana at the polynesian & watch the MK fireworks from the beach
C.) recommend something else

We should arrive around 2 pm that day & are staying at POR. It will be my husband, my almost 4 year old son and myself.

Thanks

We always go to Disney Springs the first day, it’s our little tradition, so I say go with that.

That being said, it’s hard for me to say no to dinner at Ohana! I wouldn’t do it with my 6 year old, she couldn’t stay up that late on our travel day, but maybe your 4 year old is more of a night owl?

Well its hard to say. When we are home we have a hard time getting him to bed usually asleep at 930. But the last time we went to disney (4th fo july week) he turned into a pumpkin by 8 PM every night and things went south for us if we didnt get back to the room. I was hoping with him being another year older it wouldn't be like that but perhaps its wishful thinking. Maybe well have to consider a normal hr dinner at ohana and no fireworks if we go that route

Hoop De Do and campfire movie with Chip and Dale or hayride at Wilderness Lodge. Then there is Boardwalk area with plenty of dining options and a surrey bike ride. I don't know if the Illuminations cruises are still being done now but it would be interesting view of the new Epcot replacement. Animal Kingdom Lodge has a lot to see and good dining options. You can also book a Starlight Safari Tour that is an hour long to go out onto the savanna to see the animals. All depends on interests, time, and amount of $$$ you want to spend.

I would go to DS. I would not want my 4-year old to be overly tired from traveling to Poly and watching a late fireworks show on the first night of vacation.

Go to DS. It's a great way to begin your trip. When we stay at POR, it's our tradition to ride the boat to DS on arrival day. There's just something so relaxing about the ride - we instantly feel like it's vacation time.

I would do whatever strikes you when you arrive. Obviously that means not making a reservation of any kind but I’m not one to make ADRs on arrival day. Too many variables come into play on travel days and I don’t like being tied down to a schedule.

If you want to head to DS there are tons of food options that don’t require an ADR (that often includes the Rainforest Cafe if you have a Landry’s card).

We do DS our first day. Get lunch there and then have ADRs for late evening meal.

We always do Ohana on the first night, it's our thing. Doing it again in Feb!

I agree about good not to walk around DS with dinner. We like Ghiradelli for dessert.

I myself would prefer the Ohana/fireworks plan, but given the age of your son, I think boat to DS, dinner and explore a bit, then to bed on time is probably the best option.

We always stay @ POFQ and take the boat to DS on our first day. Shop, eat early and get a good nights sleep to start your trip.

This is us, too. We stay at POFQ and take the boat to DS our first night. Dinner, dessert, and a stop at World of Disney before taking the boat back to the hotel. The boat is our first "Disney" ride!

I’d have a little pool time and then go to DS for a nice stroll, a few shops, and some dinner... and then come back to the hotel for the outdoor movie by the pool. Then if your little one is tired from the travel dayyou can head to the room early.

Pirates and Pals cruise was perfect for our grandkids on the first night. We were coming from CST zone so they had no trouble staying up late.

I was doing purely DS on arrival day. But decided to dip into DHS for a quick visit to GE. Still plan to go to Disney Springs after

We always have a quiet arrival day. Pool lounge, grocery delivery or shopping and always Disney springs for dinner and a fairly early bedtime to prepare for a crazy busy week . That’s our family anyways with single mama, 17 yr old son, 13 year old daughter, and the little boys 5 and 6
