We are going for a week in late November and want to know if the VWL are considered an "upgrade" to the SSR and why? Which would you guys choose?

that is a tuffy. we just returned from a 6 day trip & we stayed at both. both have great points & bad. SSR is nice cause it is new, close to DTD, has a dvd player(we have kids). VWL...boat to MK, short walk to anywhere unless you get the room at the end of the hallway(we had it). pool was close. we were close to bus stop at both places. SSR was a long walk to get to main office for us & there seem to be places that are even further away. we are going in the begining of oct. we are trying to decide the same. thinking VWL cause the wife wnats the quick boat to MK. both are very nice.

Both resorts are nice I will add another thing here

the rooms are SSR seem larger to me than VWL

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in your trip--and will you have a car? We drive down a lot and a car does make a difference--

good luck :sunny:

Dh and I just returned from an 8 day stay at ssr. I too think that the rooms are a bit bigger at ssr verus the vwl. I love both resorts. I like ssr a bit more because of dtd. We also travel with a teenager versus small kids. We also always have a car and don't rely on the internal transportation much. But that said, you can't lose with either resort. They are both fabulous! Good luck with your decision!

Both are great resorts, but I would go with SSR. We prefer the community atmosphere as opposed to a hotel atmosphere, especially if you are going for a whole week. We enjoy being near DD and being able to walk to DQ and Ghiradelli. It's also convenient for resort hopping, since you can catch any resort bus right from DD. We think the furnishings and decor in the SSR are much nicer than in the VWL, and we prefer Artist's Palette over Roaring Forks for quick service food. The outside/inside halls are a bit strange at first, but make a great deal of sense once it starts pouring rain. It's also great to be able to park your car in front of your building (not quite as convenient as OKW). I've also had problems with the transportation at WL before.

If you stay at VWL in late November, you'll probably get to see it all decorated for Christmas. My personal opinion is that you can't beat VWL at Christmas, so I would choose it for a late November trip. This is no slam to SSR, we like it just fine, but VWL is our absolute favorite.

Likewise(no offense)if its raining at SSR you're going to get wet walking from the bus stop to your villa. At VWL you'll be under a covered walkway to and from the bus stop. I have heard a few complaints about bus service at VWL, but there have been a ton of complaints about SSR bus service on this board. I wouldn't let either one of these points sway your decision on where to stay.

I am an owner at both resorts.

VWL is awesome that time of year. Close to MK. Hotel type environment.
SSR is brand new and close to DD and far from all parks. More open feel.

You can't go wrong at either. Perhaps you should break up your trip to include both locations.

I too own at both and it's a tough decision - both have their advantages.

I would make your choice based on what places you will most likely be visiting. If you're planning a lot of time at downtown disney choose SSR, or if you'll mostly be going to MK choose VWL.

If it's the Christmassy theming you're after, go with the lodge. If you want to use the best spa facilities in WDW go with SSR.

Good luck deciding.

I haven't tried WL yet but I do love SSR. I looked at photos of WL online at allears and the decor is dark (fits with the theme of course) and was nice. I just prefer the decor at SSR better.

Its very quiet and peaceful at SSR, nice pool and they have all sorts of fun things to do at the community hall. Some of the things were Ice Cream making, ceramics, and making your own creation with the Disney Florest.

None of which we tried but wish I had.

Well - since we have joined we have made reservations with the 11 month window at SSR. My wife is there right now with her sister for a few days and I am gong (again to SSR) in March.

The first time we went - since SSR is our home resort, we wanted to stay there! For this latest trip, my wife went down to run the 1/2 marathon (she ran it today and (finished in 2hr 43m) again I used the 11 month window, asked her at 7 months if she wanted me to try another resort, but she wanted to go back.

For my trip in March - me and a buddy are going, and since it is mostly a golf and relaxing vacation, the LBV course is right in SSR. And, we can just walk over to DTD for dinner and drinks - so you cant beat that for convience.

VWL and YBC are the two I most want to go to next. But so far, we could not be happier with SSR, but all the resorts are beautiful - so dont worry so much about where you are staying, just go and have a blast

Eric
