We're three twenty-somethings visiting WDW in May/June -- my boyfriend and I are Disneyland Annual Passholders and visit about once a month. Our friend has visited with us twice in the last few months.

Which of these bi-coastal rides are different enough at WDW that they're worth riding, even with our frequent trips to DL?

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
Enchanted Tiki Room
Haunted Mansion
It's a Small World
Jungle Cruise
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Peter Pan's Flight
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid
Soarin'
Fantasmic!
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue
Toy Story Mania!

Many of the rides have subtle differences in the actual ride and/or the queue so for the most part it's worth doing them at WDW. POTC while not as long a boat ride has a way better queue so I like WDW better for the queue & DL better for the actual ride. I did Small World at the NYC World's fair back in the 60's before they sent it to DL. I was quite disappointed when I rode the one @ WDW because it was in no way shape or form the ride I remembered fondly from my childhood so I rarely ride it @ WDW. I think Little Mermaid the actual ride is the same but the WDW queue is quite fun. Pooh I rarely ride so I can't comment on that one. DL Fantasmic is way better though I haven't seen the your new version but WDW has a few totally different sequences from DL so it's worth seeing just for that and it's nice to have the benches to sit on but the WDW faux Paddlewheel Boat is super lame. Soarin the major difference is the boring ridiculously long queue @ WDW. I like WDW HM a little better but I enjoy them both for their differences, totally different exteriors. I can't ride Space Mountain @ WDW anymore because I have a hard time getting out of the rocket at the end, but they are quite different rides since WDW has the dual tracks. Star Tours is virtually the same other than a few minor differences along the queue & WDW has a much better exterior entrance. TSM the same ride but different queue & loading/unloading area.

We went to Disneyland this summer for the first time and only didn’t ride the Tiki Room and Peter Pan from your list.

Of the rides you mentioned I felt like the Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, Star Tours, Toy Story, A Bugs Life and Soarin’ were all the same.

I really liked seeing and feeling the differences between the duplicate rides.

Your TITLE asks one question, but your actual post asks the OPPOSITE question.

Of your list, I would experience the following at WDW due to the differences.
(Not that they are "better," but because they (at least parts) are "different."

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Haunted Mansion
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain

(Separate note:
Fantasmic! is certainly significantly different at WDW, but not in a "good"way.)

I would also recommend you take a look at the Tiki Room "preshow" at WDW. The animated gods/sculptures @ DL are much better, but it is entertaining to see the different two bird preshow at WDW.

I would also recommend a trip to Aloha Isle:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/magic-kingdom/aloha-isle/

We love Dole Whips and have had them at DLR and the Dole Plantation in HI. Aloha Isle offers a unique combination of Dole Whip on top of a pineapple upside down cake. It is amazing. And you can only get it at Aloha Isle in WDW. No other location that serves Dole Whip serves it on a Pineapple upside down cake.

Also recommend that you use Mobile Ordering in MDE app to bypass the lines. It was amazing to use MO, be the first MO order in line and skip a line of a dozen or more folks. Felt like royalty. ;)

As I said in previous post, we are in your same situation. I thought it may be useful to give you more details on the specific rides you mentioned. My recommendation is that you experience everything at least once. It is fun to have the "deja vu" feeling on a ride that is similar, but different that what you're used to.

BTM
I would say it is a wash. DLR has the explosion scene in the lift hill. WDW has a much more detailed queue.

BLSRS
DLR is much better. WDW version has blaster affixed to ride vehicle. Once you experience tethered blaster at DLR, the WDW version seems constrained.

ETR
Mentioned in last note. Very similar show. Show are is larger and less intimate than DLR. Preshow is different.

iasw
WDW got the "short straw". But it is fun to see some of the scenes and items that are in WDW and not @ DLR.

JC
I think it is a wash, with slight edge to WDW. JC @ DLR can be dependent upon how good your skipper is. DLR seems to have better entertainment than WDW, so you have a greater chance your JC skipper @ DLR is an aspiring comedian on the weekend. WDW version has indoor scenes missing from DLR version.

TMAWtP
I think this is a wash, but WDW version is a bit better. My lack of detail shows just how memorable this was for me. WDW queue has interesting interactive queue elements.

PPF
Same as Pooh. DLR PPF got some projection upgrades that haven't made it to WDW.

PotC
Agree with previous poster.

Space
All the darkness of DLR SM, all of the back injuries from Matterhorn. The track is rough. Highly recommend you brace yourself by pushing your back into the ride vehicle to provide extra support. Hint: Ride camera is first turn out of station. Now you know not to have a stupid look on your face on your first ride. Another hint, look at the electronic exit billboards. The system monitors Magic Bands and will use your name in the ads. It doesn't happen all of the time, so keep an eye out, and don't be disappointed if your name doesn't show up.

Splash
WDW rules. More comfortable. Better AA.

Soarin'
Exact same film. We skipped it. Saved more time for FEA, Test Track and Mission: SPACE.

Fantasmic!
I'll be in the minority here, but I enjoyed F! @ WDW. I totally get what everyone has to say about how DLR is better than WDW, and I agree. I agree that DLR is more intimate and having full sized Twain is way more impressive. But... I miss the old soundtrack from the DLR F!, before the last upgrade. The WDW F! will make you nostalgic for the DLR version.

Star Tours:
Exactly the same. There were only four rides at DHS when we were there, so why not? ;) The only thing I remember is the faux AT-AT where you could see exposed framework from inside the queue. The rest of the ride is the same as DLR.

TSM
Exact same ride. See four ride comment. We rode it to see the differences in the queue. WDW queue is better. TSMM @ WDW has three tracks. The queues for two tracks are together, and then there is another track queue across the way at Pixar Place. No idea if third track queue is as detailed as first two. But I'd recommend one ride.

Enjoy your trip!

Personally, I wouldn't skip anything. As a WDW AP holder, were I to go to DL, I wouldn't skip any ride intentionally just because it is duplicated in both parks. Certainly there are at least subtle differences. I know for sure that HM and POTC are different.

Pirates and small a World are much better at DL, SW has the Disney Characters in it , but MK doesn’t. All the other rides are different enough that I would do them, especially HM and JC. My husband likes SM better at WDW since it doesn’take him sick Soarin’ has a different ending.

What is "SM?"

Pooh is a more complete story in WDW, and while the Pooh queue has some little kid interactive elements, I prefer the DL queue as it kinda feels like it’s in the hundred acre wood.

Most definitely. When I went to DL, I rode everything..although I prioritized the unique DL attractions (and would ride some unique attractions 2x before riding some duplicates 1x)

We typically go to DL but have been to WDW a few years ago with a second trip planned for August.

All of the following is in our opinion so don't yell if you feel differently! :)

I would not skip Jungle Cruise, we all enjoyed the extended WDW version more. Pirates at WDW is shorter so we will skip it this time although we did try it last trip. Space at DL is WAAAAAAY better but we will not skip it in August. Space is DS's favourite at DL so we will not miss it at WDW. Soarin', Toy Stoy and Star Tours are identical at both. I think we preferred BTMRR at DL but WDW is one we will not skip.

I think must-do's for DLR folks at WDW are:

MK:
Small World
Haunted Mansion (WDW much better)
POTC (enjoy the queue)
Happily Ever After
Laugh Floor
(Note, I've been to DL twice - and I still do all the similar stuff, too!)

Animal Kingdom - the whole park, obviously (note Dinosaur is Indiana Jones ride, overlay very different - Indy is better)
EPCOT - the whole park - but you could skip Soarin. (TT is lame compared to RSR at DLR; but I think you should ride it)
HS - since you are coming before Toy Story Land opens - I think the Star Wars Fireworks are great; but if you need a shorter park day - this could be it right now. I think our Beauty and the Beast show is good to see, too.

Other WDW highlights for a CA resident:

1) Go see the Grand Floridian Resort. Consider a TS meal here.

2) Ride the ENTIRE monorail system - resort loop, express TTC to MK, and TTC to Epcot. It's got AC (well, 98% of the time).

3) Go to Animal Kingdom Lodge. Wander around, see the savanna, eat at Boma.

4) Plan a few hours at Disney Springs. Consider riding the boat from DS to the Port Orleans French Quarter resort to just see the resort a few minutes.

5) Consider walking from Swan/Dolphin area, Boardwalk, all the way to Yacht Club (noting the cool pool at Beach Club).

6) Ride a resort launch boat from MK to see GF, Poly, or CR and WL.
