What are the wait times typically like say in August? Are we talking an hour or more like 10-20 minutes? I know the major rides like the new ride at TL and summit plummet at BB would probably get long waits ( we would probably do the majors first) but what about the other rides? It would be dissappointing to spend several hours there and not experience each slide at least once. Perhaps the new Volcano Bay opening will lessen the crowds....
I'm not a fan of rope dropping, but the one exception is the water parks. Even in summer, they don't open until 10am. Don't need to show up 30+ minutes early, literally 5 minutes is plenty. Find a spot for your stuff and head for the big slides. The first hour the park is open you can go on the big slides over and over. The only limit is how fast you can climb back up the stairs. By late morning, the lines will start to build pretty quickly for the big slides. By lunch the lines for the big slides will easily reach 45-60 minutes...maybe more. The smaller slides will typically be 20-30 minutes. Then the last hour or two the crowds will die down quickly and lines go down. So mid-day is a great time for the wave pool or lazy river. If a t-storm comes in early, that's also a good time to go, as many people leave. So show up after a t-storm passes (or wait it out in the park).
Summit still makes me nervous. I'm still not sure I'm climbing those stairs or taking the lift up. I had crossed my feet and they lifted up and ricocheted off the top of the side walls, which seems tough for normal people to do.
Summit can be a bit rough if you're not ready for it, no doubt. But man, it's so much fun!!
