I need something to get up dog hair:rolleyes: from my hard wood floors. Any suggestions? I don't think I want one that mops too just picks up hair. I love my dog, just not her hair! Anyway I went to look today but really was confused by all the chioces. Thanks for your advise!:D

Dyson makes a vacuum for pet hair. Quite a few of disers on the board own them and swear by them. It is the vacuum I plan on purchasing next year. Their website is http://www.dyson.com

I never vac. my hardwood floors, the wheels of the vac. would scratch them...I sweep with a soft broom all the stuff up and then suck it up with the hose of the vac.

We do not have pets but I have a Shark and I love it. Just bought another one. It only weighs about three pounds and is a cleaning wonder. It really will pick up ball bearings and even a throw rug, if you are not careful so I imagine it would do pet hair just fine. No bags, rechargeable and just plain wonderful IMHO. Doubt that it would scratch a wood floor either.

Slightly Goofy

The dyson for sure. The one with the animal attachement is awesome.

Thanks very much! The Dyson is one of the ones I was looking at in Target today. I am glad to hear it works well. Really cool web site! Now if they would just go on sale Sunday I would be a very lucky girl! (With much less pet hair hanging out under my bed too!):D Does it say animal atachment on the box? (And if I just attach it to the dog will it help?;) ) Don't worry the spoiled dog has nothing tho worry about.:D Thanks again!:wave2:

DH bought a Pro-Team backpack vacuum when we got the hardwoods done in our first house. www.pro-team.com . It's the kind that janitors use. I really like it!

I use a back pack vac by Pro Team, they have the best suction and great for people with allergies. I bought mine 7 years ago, it still works like the day I bought it, and I do a lot of vacuuming.

I use a Swiffer that you charge and it has a suction. You still use the swiffer clothe (or any store brand works fine too) so it doesn't scratch the floor. It's easy and quick and I use it almost daily. It was only around $40 at Walmart.

The only drawback is that it doesn't stay charged as long as I'd like it too.

The best type of a vacuum for a hardwood floor is a canister type. Uprights like the dyson are GREAT for carpet but not so great on wood floors. If you are looking at spending Dyson prices, check out the Miele canister vacuums. Really great suction, the power head does a good job on carpet (and it's nice for area rugs, you can turn the roller brush on and off where you hold the thing so that you can easily switch from wood to area rugs) and they are supposed to last forever.

I have a Miele (my whole house is hardwood). I believe it is one of the only vacuums that have components on it that will not damage hardwood floors. The wheels are rubbery, the edges are rubbery, the bristles on the attachments are natural horsehair and not synthetic. Nothing on the vacuum will scratch the floor. Some of the other brands have hard plastic wheels and attachments that are made so that the plastic parts are not prevented from hitting the floor. But, the Miele is expensive. Very quiet though. I can actually talk on the phone while I'm vacuuming. Not that I do, but I tried it once!
