I know last year there were some discussions on this subject and before I buy my software I'd like opinions.

Just a little info on my situation. We have a pretty standard form, but we have an in-home office for my DH's work.

Also, buy the software or just pay and download it from the company's site?

I have used Turbo Tax Home & Business for years, and have '03 loaded and ready to work on. Though I hate it, LOL.

We've used tax programs for many, many years. DH has made the decision that we are swithing from Turbotax to Tax Cut this year. I believe that cost was the deciding factor.

My dad is a big fan of Tax Cut. My dad, although he is currently retired, was an accountant.

We switched from Turbo Tax to Tax Cut.

Another vote for tax cut. I used turbo tax one year and hated it. I've used Tax Cut for the last 4-5 years and bought it again this year. Got my copy at Target for $9.99.

I also switched from Turbo Tax to Tax Cut a few years ago when I pre-ordered Turbo Tax and received the product WEEKS later than it was in the stores. I was furious as I was getting a big refund and wanted to file quickly. Also that year they were having big problems and dropped some of the features that had been included the previous year. I'm sure that they have improved a lot since the last time I used Turbo Tax but they don't get a second chance when I've been so happy with Tax Cut.

I also lived in Silicon Valley during that time and everyone I knew who had anything to do with Intuit hated the management of the company and how they did business. so I'd rather not give them my money.

Tax Cut is cheaper but I would buy it even if it cost more.

We switched from Turbo Tax to Tax Cut last year because of the spyware or whatever it was that Turbo Tax has put into their program. We'll use Tax Cut again.

Thanks everyone. Think I'll try Tax Cut.

Is there any difference between buying it online and downloading versus buying the software?

Anyone ever just used H&R Block online rather then purchasing tax software?

I'm so glad to see this info since we're trying to make this decision today. You can use these programs for preparing multiple returns, right? DBF is planning to buy one today and wants to be able to do the returns for himself, his kids, me...

I think Alex gave us the heads up on spyware last year. I switched to Tax Cut and will stay with it this year.

I bought my Tax Cut Deluxe today at Wal-Mart for $19.77. That comes with a rebate for free efiling(which I think was about $14 last year) and also free Tax Cut State by rebate, which was also $19.77. Not bad for the cost of the main program to get the state free and the e file free.
