Which song(s) always seem to get you snapping and smiling, no matter what type of day you're having, or mood you're in? Songs that are so energetic and uplifting, that they could cure you from any rut?

What inspired this thread was when I was driving home from work yesterday. I hadn't exactly had the best weekend, and was a bit stressed out. I was listening to our local oldies station on the radio. (Yes, I'm 28 and listen to oldies...laugh if you must). And this song came on: "Palisades Park" by Freddy Cannon. I've heard this song various times before and it always seems to put me in the best mood. Not sure why, as there is nothing deep or meaningful about it, but just energetic and fun. I thought it would be great to have an album solely made up of the songs like that which always make me feel good. There are many others such as PP that always get my foot tappin', such as a handful from The Temptations and KC & The Sunshine Band (yes, I love old school music).

What are some others which simply make you feel happy?

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves

("Palisades Park" is a great choice, too. We had a local band that played at the Surf Club in Bemus Point, NY and that was one of their covers.)

"Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" :cool1:

"Wanna Be Startin' Something"

Just about anything by Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Al Greene, Tom Petty, The Beatles, John Hiatt, early Michael Jackson. I'm sure there is more but that's what comes to mind.

I love music, so there's too many faves of mine to list, but some "oldies" that really make feel great are:

Twenty-Five Miles by Edwin Starr
I can't get next to you - Temptations
Do you feel like I do - Peter Frampton

Ditto!

Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl", Don McLean's American Pie, another vote for Prince's Little Red Corvette, along with 1999, and of course , MJ's Thriller and Beat It.

There are so many songs I would be hard-pressed to narrow it down to a few hundred. One that comes to mind, though, is an old song by The Chiffons "One Fine Day." There's something about the rhythm that instantly gets my toe going and I like the bari sax solo.

Sir Robin Hood, in close to a half century as a musician playing all kinds of music, I've found oldies will fill a dance floor no matter what the age group.

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Rock With You - Michael Jackson

One of These Nights - Eagles

You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon

Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison

Only the Good Die Young - Billy Joel

I'll come up with some more in just a minute!

Oooooh I have loads of those songs but "Build Me Up Buttercup" immediately comes to mind.

Mama Told Me Not to Come by Three Dog Night, especially heard live during Eat to the Beat, along with anything by the Guess Who, especially Undun, American Woman and No Sugar Tonight. Barracuda and Crazy on You by Heart, Walk Away and Funk # 49 by the James Gang (Joe Walsh), Somebody to Love By Jefferson Airplane, Your Mama Don't Dance by Loggins & Messina, my list goes on and on.

Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel
Out Last Night - Kenny Chesney
Honky Tonk Badonkadonk - Trace Adkins
She's A Hottie - Toby Keith

Build Me Up Buttercup - The Foundation
Let's Hang On - The Four Seasons
Happy Together - The Turtles

"Rubber Band Man" by the Spinners...it makes me roll down the car windows and drive too fast (now that I'm over 50, too fast is relative:))

"Here Comes the Sun"...especially the Richie Havens version, but the Beatles will do as well!

Celebration - Kool and the Gang
Shout - Temptations
