Hi there,

I was starting my Christmas shopping today (yes, I did say that) and I was looking at scooters for my 5 and 3 yr. old girls. I'm trying to decide if the just turned 5 yr. old should get a two- or three- wheeled scooter.

I'd hate to get an extra three-wheeler if she's going to outgrow it soon, but I'd hate to see her not use a two-wheeler she may not be ready for yet.

Any info would be great from those of you who've been there. Two- or three-wheel? What's a good brand? I know nothing about scooters.

Thanks
Allison

I would get the 2 wheeler for your 5yo.

When my daughter in Kindergarten (5yo also) we bought her a 2 wheel scooter with Barbie on it, it rides so smooth (maybe it was made by Razor?)

My son is 3-1/2 and has had a 3-wheel scooter for over a year now. He's definitely ready for a 2-wheel one--he uses the neighbors all the time. He'll either get it for xmas or his birthday in April.

My 5 year old also has a two wheel scooter. He used to have the three wheel, but he really outgrew that one quickly. We got him a Razor at Toys R Us. I think if was only $30.00.

Are you talking about the mini motorized ones that look like baby motorcycles?

Do you have a pic?

These are the kinds I see the kids around here with:

I wouldn't let my 5 y/o on either unless she was riding on a really safe off road area.

There are even laws being passed on both kinds for safety reasons!

Last Christmas, we bought our 3 and 4 year olds the Fisher Price Roll to Pro scooter. It has a wider base than the Razor and it has two smaller "training wheels" on either side of the back wheel.

When they get good at riding it, you can remove the training wheels. It's VERY stable and sturdy and was on sale for $19 at Toys R Us.

poohkinandpiglet - thanks for telling me the exact name. I did a search on the site for a pic. I have never seen a non motorized one before.

When I was a kid, these were scooters:

. I didn't realize that for this thread a scooter was a skateboard with a handle on it!

So, forget what I said about not letting a 5 y/o ride one.

LOL!
