Which Savannah View?

My family is going to stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in November and have requested a Savannah View. We would like to know which Savannah preference we should request. Although there are some differences of animals in the different savannahs, are any of the savannahs views better than the others?

The one time I stayed at AKL we were on the Arusha Savannah because my daughter loves zebras - it was awesome

Arusha is the big savannah, with two wings (Zebra and Kudu Trails) going off the main lobby. If you want to be near the pool, request to be near the pool. We were almost at the end of the Kudu Trail and LOVED our room and the location ...... but it was a 5 minute walk through the resort in wet bathing suits to get back to our room. I'm not complaining at all, and would stay in that same room in a heartbeat. Some people with little kids might find it inconvenient.

I think this savannah has better views than the one with the 'people pen', but wouldn't turn down ANY room at AKL, even standard view. It's such a special place.

We like Arusha, too, because of the zebras.

I really liked Arusha too. My only problem with it was we were so far away from the lobby becasue we wer one of the last rooms. Just ask if you can get a close room because if you have a far walk then it is sort of boring walking back and forth whenever you want anything. But yea, it is a great view.

We had Urusha Savannah and ended up really liking it, even though we were over a people pen. There were a great variety of animals. I am debating even requesting a view, because I think they all have something to offer. I know I want an open view, and don't want to be directly over Arusha rock, because it would seem all you see is the rock.

We had Uzima savannah over a people pen and we really enjoyed the view. It was on the 3rd floor (same floor as lobby), so it was convenient to the pool and Mara.

Last week, the Arusha Savannah (main savannah) had three giraffes, four zebras, and two elands. There were also a number of beautiful birds and wild hares. The Arusha Savannah (like someone previously mentioned) is the biggest savannah without "people pens." The Arusha Rock overlooks the Arusha Savannah so you do not want a room too close to the main lodge, or all you will see is Arusha Rock and people running around out there trying to see the animals. In fact, the better rooms are from the middle of the wings or "trails" to the end of the "trail." The two trails on either side are the zebra and kudu. We stayed in the middle of the zebra trail and had a great view.

I'm sure all the savannahs are excellent. They are well worth it. Especially compared to the other resorts where you might just look at some trees and grass. Wooo exciting. Whereas any savanna view at AKL is quite cool. The rooms further down the trail- at the end of the "U" for the Arusha Savannah are more quiet- you don't hear loud people at the Arusha Rock for instance.

What are the 'people pens"?

"People Pens" are areas enclosed with tall fencing that would be used if the hotel guests ever needed to be evacuated from the building in an emergency. The pens are to keep the people and animals separate until the situation can be resolved.

If you booked a savanna view you will get one, why not just leave it up to fate?

Requesting a particular savanna is never guaranteed and may cause disappointment at check in if you are given a location you did not request.

We too loved Arusha savannah Zebra Trail right past the rope bridge or the first break. It was close to the elevator and a great view.
