Which s/w packages do you favour to edit/enhance video?

The title says it all!

I should say I never taken the time to edit my video before and have no experience of using such tools.
As this trip was the children's first I would love to make a DVD to show
family.

I use Roxio Easy Media Creator 9.0. It's fairly easy to use and I get some very nice results.
