We are going the first week of December for our first Disney Holiday experience. I know the resorts are decorated, but which resorts would be the best to tour while on our trip?
Thanks for the suggestions, but I have another question...
We've never stayed in anything but a value resort, and until reading about all the holiday decorations, never thought about touring the resorts. Are the decoration generally just in the lobby areas, or are there other areas we need to make sure we see?
Yes you can just hop on the monorail at either MK or TTC and ride around to each resort hoping on and off. Eat a meal there, check it out for another stay etc. Obvioulsy you can not go up to rooms or use the pool.
I forgot about WL. It was beautiful. We rode the boat over their after one of our MK days when it was closing early for MVMCP and had dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe, after we had eaten we had time it just right (not planned so really cool) just as the fireworks were going off for MVMCP. It was like our own little fireworks cruise. One of those ahhhh! moments!

We toured mainly the lobbies but depending on how you approach the Boardwalk there was a cool Christmas tree in the courtyard that I had my kids take a picture in front of. If you leave Epcot through the International Gateway, and walk over to the Boardwalk it is pretty easy to see because that is how you enter the building. If you took a bus or drove, you would come down the steps outside the Boardwalk and if going to the Boardwalk to see that and then the lobby obviously is inside with its big display. Like I said we stayed at the Boardwalk so we walked to dinner one night and saw the Beach Club carousel.
Also while at the CR, it isnt decorated but there is a cool Mickey ears metal statue that is a cute photo opp. I have my kids sit in the ears everytime we go. You dont have to stay there to do it. Wander out the back of the hotel towards the pool and it is right there to left. Also the displays at CR are on the 4th floor concourse, along with shopping, an arcade and food (Chef Mickey's and the Contemp Cafe)

Resort hopping to see the decorations is a lot of fun and well worth the time. There are often more decorations in the restaurants. For instance, 'Ohana had Christmas villages made by their Chefs. They were not huge like the ones found in the lobby but were fun to see.
I loved the displays in the YC/BC and in the Boardwalk. Lots of fun to find the Hidden Mickeys.
My favorite monorail resort decorations are in the Grand Floridian but all three are lovely. If you are planning on having dinner at AK, the lobby there is stunning. There is a huge tree decorated with African ornaments.
