Which resorts have bunk beds?

We are going to Disney in September (free dining!) with our 2yo and 4yo boys. I was thinking of booking a room with a Queen and bunk beds. I'm not sure if the 4yo will be ready to sleep in the top and if the 2yo will be ready to sleep in a bed (he's still in a crib at home) by then, but even if that doesn't work out, I was thinking the 4yo could sleep in the bottom bunk, and the 2yo in a pack and play. Having the bunks, instead of a second queen, would free up floor space for the pack and play and give us a bit more room.

Am I thinking of it correctly? I checked out the pics on allearsnet of the WL room with bunk beds and it seems like it might work for us. But I was wondering what other resorts have bunk beds as an option.

Has anyone does this before? Any tips to offer? If there is somewhere on the disboards where I can find this info, I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I looked around and couldn't seem to find it.

Thanks so much!!

Animal Kingdom lodge also has bunk beds. I'm not sure about other resorts.

Here's the AKL fact sheet and a link to pictures as well: bunk bed room pics

If you're willing to stay in a value resort instead you might look at the new Family Suites at the All Star Music Resort.

I assume you're still checking things out before you book? I really recommend Dreams Unlimited. We are using them this time to book our trip in September and Sue Ellen is our agent and has been Oh so helpful! Just thought I would mention it!

Not bunk beds, but the Alligator Bayou @ Port orleans have trundle beds. It saved us space, just push it under the bed during the day and pull it out at night. We loved it.

Cheryl - thanks for the links. I showed my DH the pics of the bunks to get his thoughts on our 4yo sleeping in the top. He thinks that he would do fine. Not sure if the 2yo will be in a big boy bed by then though, but I guess I still have 4 months!

I checked into All Star Music and the family suites. I had heard about them. They aren't available on our travel dates with the special free dining option. :sad1:

Love the pic of your DS. So tiny, and look at him now! Wow!

Tinker - I'll check into the trundle idea. Thanks!

AKL and WL have the bunks but they won't guarantee you will get them. I must say that after one trip to WL and two to AKL we have yet to get bunk beds so be forewarned. Its a request not a guarantee and IIRC only the deluxe rooms have the bunks now. From what I have read if your children are g/b you have a better chance! Since I am g/g and you are b/b you and I are on the bottom of the list, IMHO.

That said the "recommendation" for the top bunk is 5yo but we had them at home and my dd' was fine at 4. You know your son best and if he can handle it. If you do get the bunk beds you can get bedrails from housekeeping for the bottom bunk if your 2yo ends up there.

Otherwise be prepared for a room with two queens - you can still get the bedrails or use the pnp but unless you book a deluxe room and get lucky you will likely have the queens.

I don't say this to discourage you but I don't want you to be dissapointed, bunks are a bonus.

I've discovered the campground cabins have a Queen/bunks in a separate bedroom (and pull down murphy in living room which we don't need). Hmmm...It sure would be nice to have the kids in a separate room so we can relax after they go to bed without worrying about them. And the kitchen would be good for breakfast. The reviews I have been reading though say that the internal transportation can be kind of shoddy, and many people recommend renting a golf cart. It's a possibility!

So Re: bunks, it looks like it's just the three: AKL, WL and FWC. And there is that trundle bed option at Riverside. At least with the FWC, you know you are getting the bunks, as opposed to a "maybe" with AKL or WL. The fact sheet on allearsnet for WL even says that you can't make special requests for bunks anymore.

Well defnitely if you get a cabin you will have more room, bunks for sure and a kitchen. As to the special request to WL; you can request the bunks when you book your room with Reservations, you just can't contact the Lodge or fax them with special requests as they don't take them anymore.

Thanks Sammie. I was obviously confused as that was not how I read it. But that's good to know. So hard to decide when you're trying to plan for a vacation with a 2yo and a 4yo!

We had a Queen/Bunk Bed room at AKL this spring. I thought my 5 year old would sleep in the top but it turned out my 4 year old liked it better. This definately opened up the floor space and they had a pack-N-play in the closet. The top bunk had lots of rails but it was actually the bottom bunk that my they rolled off once in the middle of the night (they are used to full size beds). They loved to play on the bunk beds.
