Which Resort?

Thanks everyone so far for your help! You have given me lots to think about!!!

How does split stay work? Do they transfer your luggage?

Boardwalk is bright, white and very fun décor. I think your mom would love it there!!! After a few stays at Boardwalk, I decided to book Wilderness Lodge the next time and WOW....so beautiful and fun there also!

I would think your mom will love either of them. Food choices IMO are better at Wilderness Lodge. I also love Magic Kingdom the best....... & the WL boat gets you there vey fast and it is a nice ride.
I would even try a split stay if you can, so you can see them both! :dogdance:

Good Luck no matter what your choice (s) will be!pixiedust:

Yes! I was looking at food options and Wilderness seemed like it had the most of the deluxe resorts.

I would stay at an epcot resort

The last few years, most of our trips are split stays. Yes they will transfer your luggage for you! Even groceries if you want to transfer.. Its actually pretty easy and we enjoy the different experiences (we usually split between MK resort and Epcot resort)

+1 Epcot resort for sure. We stay at BCV every time but boardwalk is great too. I think that, besides the location, there are far more amenities, restaurants, things to see and do, etc. at those compared to the MK resorts. They're all fine, really, but once DW stayed at the beach club it was a done deal for us!

They will transfer your luggage between Disney resorts. However, I don't find them relaxing. You have to check out by 11 am and often will not get a room until 3pm. I fully unpack in the resort and find having to repack and wait for a room a bit annoying and a time sink. We have done it with very long trips of 10 days or more on the rare instance we have those but personally for me the cons outweigh the pros. My family will say otherwise, but they go along with their business while I do all the packing, unpacking and getting the general stuff sorted.

A split stay between a MK and an Epcot resort would be my pick. Split stays are great for some people, but others prefer to stay settled for the duration of the trip. It is a personal preference that you may not really be sure about until you try it for yourself.

I like split stays because I like to be close to the TP's that I am visiting, so I organize our touring plans FP+ and dining based on where we are staying in the first/second portions of our trip. We also really enjoy the different resorts for different reasons and a split stay allows us to enjoy more during the one trip.

It is true that you have to pack/unpack twice if you do a split stay. This can be minimized in a number of ways. Some people pack two suitcases and use a different one for each resort. I like to use packing cubes and unpack very little anyway. I keep organized with great luggage with multiple compartments and colour coded packing cubes to keep all the categories of items together. An extra fold up duffle with a garbage bag serves as a laundry hamper. I keep a toiletries bag that I open and hang on the bathroom door hook, a few items go in the safe and a few items get hung in the closet. I have a system that only takes a few minutes to put back together. Typically, I can pack up while DH showers. We drop our bags off at Bell services to deliver to the next resort and we are on the bus stop to go about our day just a little later than we go every other day.

I plan moving day with a nice character lunch or TS meal as our 'break' from touring, and generally plan a lot of 'middle of the day' activities. We plan a slower start and go back to our new resort a little earlier than usual to have dinner there and 'settle in'. Planning to be away for the hours that you are 'homeless' (11 am - 4 pm), makes it less problematic to not have a resort for a few hours.
Then, Just take the bus to your new resort at the end of the day, call Bell Services to deliver your luggage and Voila! you are moved.

Another option:
When we travel with our grandchildren, we sometimes plan a resort day and relax at the pool while waiting for our room. We request a late check out which will often allow until noon to leave. This is the morning, for example, if we are staying at the CR, that we would book Chef Mickey's for breakfast. After a slow start, we take our bags with us in a taxi to our new resort. We have a pool bag packed that we keep with us. If the room is ready early, great, we settle in. If not we leave our bags with Bell Services, grab our pool bag and go relax at the pool with the kids until it is ready. In these circumstances, we request an early check in as our only request, which works sometimes.

If you like to keep organized and live out of your suitcases, it is remarkably easy to move. Just have a plan for the day and go with the flow.
