Which Resort To Buy?

I'm looking to buy DVC through resale. Before my question, I must thank everyone on this board for great information! I've learned allot about DVC here :flower3:

Ok, now my decision is made to buy, but which one? How important is the home resort? Is it hard to get reservations 7 months out? I usually visit WDW at the end of August or beginning of December.

In hindsight, I wish we had bought at VWL. We really like SSR, but we LOVE the lodge. We are perfectly fine with staying at SSR if we can't change at 7 months out, however, I do see an add-on for VWL in our future, just not sure when.

With saying the above, I would buy where you want to stay, not a place where you'll settle to stay. I haven't had any issue changing at 7 months out, but you never know if you'll be able to or not.

Read THIS THREAD about how to choose a home resort. It has a lot of good advice.

In general, end of August is a good time to reserve at 7 months to get most resorts.

Beginning of December, on the other hand, is a very busy DVC time due to the holiday decorations and low points. So in that case you will stay at your home resort on most trips, booked right at the 11 month window.

Most everyone will tell you to buy where you like best, and that is usually the best way to go. However, how can you know which resort you like best until you've had a chance to experience each one?

In our case, my wife and I spent several nights at WDW (at the DTD Hilton) and toured each and every DVC resort on property. We would take the DTD busses to the resorts and inspect the lobbies, pools, restaurants, and any- and everything else we felt was important to us as persepective owners. We ate exclusively at the DVC resort restaurants, and even took the boats and busses to the parks from the resorts to see how much time it would take. We had a great time, and really learned alot along the way.

In the end, we decided we loved ALL the resorts:laughing: , but we chose BWV because it just felt right to us.

Good luck with your decision.

Hi! I just got back from Universal (I did make a stop at WDW). Thanks again for the great advice. I do like the idea of visiting the resorts, I'm going in August and staying at Saratoga Springs. I think I'll explore the other resorts, and make my decision after that visit.

Granny - The thread you started was very helpful.
