OK.......I have been away from the boards for 6 months or so and I feel like it is in a foreign language now......codes....codes and more codes! EEK!

We are planning a possible trip mid October....family of 6. 2 adults and 4 kids--ages 10,9,5,3.
We stayed in Ft. Wilderness Cabin last trip......with 6 of us there were not many options. I don't want to cook on my vacation this time, although would like to do breakfasts, sandwiches on our own some ----so we are considering getting 2 adjoining rooms at All Stars. We have never stayed at a Value Resort.

Do you think this is a mistake? Should be go back to Ft. Wilderness. We really liked parts of it but did find the extra travel time a bit cumbersome....also the kids love to swim and we were thinking a "themed pool" would be nice. Will we save money by getting the 2 rooms at the All Stars?

Next question........in the past it seemed the quicker you booked the better. Now I am reading that this may not be the case in order to get a discount. I am a Disney Club member but not interested in a package and it seems they have made it more difficult to use the discounts.......is this the case?? What is the best way to book now?
Sorry to be so ignorant!! I used to know what to do but it seems all has changed!!!

Kam, to get information on the codes the best places to look are the disneyclub website, the disneyworld website, this site here on the main page www.wdwinfo.com and on www.mousesavers.com

It will give you the codes, explain the dates available, etc. You can reserve a room now with your disney club discount (room only) and if other discounts are announced for your dates, you can call them back and adjust your reservation.

I love FW and have a hard time staying at the AS, but it all comes down to personal choice. The AS rooms are nice, not huge, no special ammenities. For disney they are a basic room. If you would like a fridge you will have to request one for an additional fee. Depending on your budget you might consider upgrading to a moderate. We have always found these very nice and worth the extra $$. Their pools are just as nice and the rooms a bit nicer then the values.

As for booking, if you are going around a holiday the farther in advance the better. As for discounts it is true that most dont occur until a few months out. We usually book at the best rate we can get and then keep an I on codes and check for a better rae when it gets closer. Book the discounted rate if it is available and cancel the original resv. That way we are assured a room. But dont think you will have a problem Oct is a great month to visit because crowds are low.

Finally you are not ignorant just want to be informed. The people on this board only want to help and are eager to do so. Have fun!

If you have stayed at FW before, I think you would be dissapointed in AS. You say you don't want to cook, so DON'T! :)

The fridge would be nice for drinks and fast breakfasts and the extra room would indeed be very nice.

Just my $.02--We have 5 kiddos and have booked adjoining rooms at the AS Sports. The kids loved it. We stayed at Surfs Up on the first floor twice, and when you walked out the door, there was the pool, and the food court was a short walk. We just got back from staying off-site--We'll NEVER do it again. There's something about the "energy" that fills Disney resorts--It truly is magical. We just took the plunge and joined DVC, so we will be staying in 2 BR villas from now on. After our off-site experience, we knew it was time. Best wishes for your trip!!

P.S.--We stayed 1 night at AKL and it was awesome. If you could get a discounted rate, you could get adjoining rooms with bunk beds. It was fun!
