I have a choice for our family vacation resort for our trip 7/20-8/3 and I would like to know which resort is better for a family stay. I have not stayed at either so I need help.

I can only tell you about Cypress Palms, as I've never stayed at Star Island. Cypress Palms was nice enough. Nothing spectacular, but we would stay there again. If you get a two-bedroom that includes the lock-out unit, you'll have lots of space and privacy as well as two washers and dryers, two kitchens, etc. Beds were comfy. Screened porch was nice. Only real complaint about the unit was the dirty carpet. Pools were also quite cold, but that was in October. You might not mind that in July. Pools are nothing fancy. No lazy rivers or water slides or anything. We were busy with the parks as well as a beach trip so we didn't really mind.

I've only stayed at Cypress Palms, but I really like it. I've stayed there probably 6 times. I always get a 2 bedroom but have never had a lock-out like the previous person. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. Decent free wifi.

I have looked at Star Island and it looks very nice. In one of the reviews I read it said the wifi was horrible. That is a turn off for me cause I like to bring my laptop. Also they charge a resort fee at Star Island and they do not at Cypress Palms.

Cypress Palms is nice - never stayed at Star Island but we will stay for two weeks in October

Friends of mine had a reservation at Star Island 1 month ago and after staying 1 night, left due to the dirty condition of the unit, people wandering the parking lot that looked like they were waiting to break into cars and bug infestation in the unit. I have stayed at Cypress and loved it!

I have stayed at both and would choose Cypress Palms. It is a very "vanilla" type resort - no fancy pools or other amenities. However, it's very well maintained and clean. The times we have stayed there the staff has always been friendly and responsive.

Star Island is a mixed ownership resort - part Wyndham and something else (I forget other company). None of the resort is maintained by Wyndham. All upkeep and services are contracted with the other company. The resort is fancier with better pools, tennis courts, etc., but everytime we have stayed here it's been dirty and run down.

I will add it's been about 5 years since I have stayed at either resort.

We have stayed at both in the last six months - Cypress Palms in February - Star Island right now. Both are great. When I have more time I'mm write detailed reviews, but Star Island is a little better IMO.

We are staying at star island this Dec for the first time. We have actually never been to WDW either. They told me that all rooms were completely renovated within the last year. The reviews for over a year ago are good and bad. The reviews for more recent stays are very good. Recent reviews for the staff friendliness are also very good.

Quick Star Island Review:

As far as I can see all the rooms have been renovated - Building 22 is closed off and is in the final stages of being renovated.

There is a gate guard 24/7; the pools are very nice and there are lots of activities; there is a beach on property with a small playground; there is a bounce house for older kids; several tennis courts are on property.

The rooms are very large and comfortable; there are 4 TVs in the condo all new LGs: the rooms are very, very clean. The resort is very quiet unless you are near the bar area which can get quite noisy at night.

We had family leave and come home early in june because of terrible conditions at star island - holes in furniture, gum stuck everywhere, rust looking stains running down the walls in the unit, muddy looking fountain, and unit overlooked a creepy trailer park.

i would go with cypress palms.
