A friend is planning a trip with her husband and 5 children ages 6-14.
They are considering AK, Port Orleans, or Beach Club.

Any suggestions.

Thanks.

The would need two rooms at any of those places. I would reccommend the Beach Club of those three choices. I wholeheartedly reccommend that they get a 2bedroom villa, rather than two rooms. They would get two bedrooms, and a living room and kitchen. So they can save of food, even if its just snacks or a few breakfasts, but also the living rooms makes sleeping much easier, since the little ones can go to sleep, while the older ones stay up on the far side of the closed door.

We also have 5 kids, and need 2 rooms. We are always guaranteed to get connecting rooms because of the kids. We love Port Orleans, and have stayed at the values, POP being the favorite. We have done AK, and FW, but that gets really expensive with 2 rooms(they are great hotels, if money isn't a problem). We really don't care about the kitchen, so the suites don't help us(the suites tend to be a bit pricey, you can usually get 2 rooms for less) and many people have said Fort Wilderness cabins can fit large groups, but that has never appealed to us either.

We travel as a party of 7 as well with 4 kids and grandma. Our last stay three weeks ago was at POFQ and we really, really liked it! This is a small resort, so it made us more comfortable allowing our older 2 to go places like the arcade and the pool (always together and with a phone) while we tended to the needs of the younger two. The buses were good for us and it is nice to be the first on and the first off. Another plus, is that all of the amenities of another resort are a short, pleasant boat ride away! We enjoyed fishing and swiming and eating in the food court of POR.

We have considered a two bedroom DVC property, but we have no need of a kitchen and as a mom of four kids, it feels so much more like a vacation when someone else makes my bed every day :-) I have heard rave reviews about the cabins, but we do not like the complicated transportation and the pool is ho hum (an important aspect to us, but not to others).

My vote would be for a villa, but I hear what you're saying about not needing the kitchen. Are the All Star family suites not big enough? I've heard about them, but haven't seen floor plans or anything.

We traveled with our BIL/SIL earlier this year and got connecting rooms at the WL and had more than enough room, but could have used a little kitchenette or something...if nothing else but to have a bigger place to make coffee, make some microwave popcorn and more fridge space. Would have been easier on me as well - not freaking out in the morning trying to round everyone up and get them out only to have them want to stop and eat breakfast, etc...jmho though.

Have you considered staying off-site? You can get a huge 2 BR villa for what it would cost you per night (per room!) to stay at a moderate...maybe a little more than that.

Cabins can only hold six. I think a where they stay should depend on where they will spend the most time. With kids that age, the pool is probably going to be a huge deal. In that case Beach Club!!!

Another vote for the BCV. They can check on the DVC board if they would like to rent points at a great savings. :thumbsup2

Ever think about staying off site? :thumbsup2 We rent a home with 3 BR, 2 bath, hot tub and heated pool. Booked the house for March 2007. Let me know if you want the web page. This house is privately owned. :goodvibes
