As it stands right now, I've got a reservation for a full size car for 10 days at two Rental car companies.

Dollar: 340.00
Alamo: 370.00

I know with Alamo, you get to pick out any full size in the lot. I kinda like this idea. But, is it worth the extra 30 bucks to be able to pick out the car.

What would you guys choose. Dollar or Alamo.

Thanks

I would pick alamo for sure for the extra $30. Any car you don't like you just walk to the next. Also sometimes they park upgrades in other aisles and you can take it for your rate. (ex. minivan in intermediate isle )

I also like Alamo for the ability to use the kiosk. We got to the Alamo area at MCO last month and there were at least 15 people in line. Walked right up to the kiosk and did the check-out process. We were on our way in about 5 minutes.

And alamo you can use walmart code or costco code (I believe ) to get a free extra driver. Not so with dollar. If not for that then I would go with the cheaper one. Save the $30 for dinner.:thumbsup2

I'd go with Alamo. As a PP said, they sometimes move higher class vehicles to lower class rows, so you get a free upgrade. This happened to us renting in Tampa a couple of years ago - I had a GREAT rate on a midsize ($127 for 9 days!) and there was a Trailblazer parked in the midsize aisle! So we ended up with a full size SUV for 9 days for $127!!!

ITA! They are so convenient. Also if you're not using a coupon, you don't even have to stop at the kiosk, just check in online and go straight to the garage.

Honestly I've never used Dollar's frequent renter program but if you do rent thru Dollar be sure to join. Their reg. line is horribly long & slow, 1 hr. + in Nov. 2007 (not near TG at all) only to be given the paperwork and told to go visit the little office in the garage to get the key to an assigned car, which is another line of 5 or so people ahead. :headache:
At that point I would have paid $100 more for Alamo!
