Which Queues Have Important Storyline Info?

I'm really excited about using lightning lanes to avoid waiting in line, but I'm a little concerned we might miss some important storyline buildup. Which rides at Disneyland/CA should we go through the queue (or at least watch them online) to get the full effect of the ride? Also, which queues are just really cool, but aren't necessarily integral to the story?

Thanks!

(If there is already a great answer on this please post the link.)

Runaway Railroad is the only attraction that comes to mind where your parts of the Q

incredicoaster has random video's in the Q about the story for the ride but you will still see them when you enter the Q with the rest of the quests

Runaway Railway has an excellent queue! I could just wander around in it - it's like a museum! If you love Disney/Mickey, it is a must see.

Otherwise, most of the time even if you use LL you go directly into the pre-show room where most of the story gets explained. I don't know that any queues are necessary in that regard. GotG Mission: Breakout has some stuff to look at and a video to watch, but it's not that big of a deal.

Indy used to have a good queue, but they don't really use it anymore. Everyone (standby and LL) walk through it without stopping. No more rope to pull, no decoding. You get the movie just before you enter, but not much else.

Star Tours is cute. LL sometimes walk through it at a faster pace than standby. Not a reason to avoid LL for that ride.

Wait the Rope was there when I went a month ago and I pulled it

I would say MMRR is really the only one that is a MUST see queue. If you go through the lightning lane, you will see some of it, but not all of it and you don't get the time to enjoy it. Especially great if you're a fan of the classics.

As far as other queues, it really depends on how much of a fan of certain franchises you are. Like, the Mission Breakout queue is cool if you're a HUGE fan of the Marvel universe, because it's items you recognize from the films as part of Tivan's collection. But if you're not a Marvel nerd, it's not a big deal, and any plot you need you'll see in the pre-show.

I am thinking about doing Mickey & Minnies for the first time through standby and then we will use LL for repeat rides. When we are in a really immersive queue we like to stop and take photos. We always let people go ahead of us if we want to stop to get a good look at something. As we come from Australia we usually spend quite a few days at DLR so we have the time to stop and smell the roses some days and then others we prioritise the rides.

Tiana’s bayou adventure, if you go by the WDW version, has a good queue that you miss a lot of in LL. Not sure how much of that would come to DL when it opens.

Runaway Railway is only queue at DL that is worth it today.

Roger Rabbit has an interesting queue that you pretty much miss all of with LL, but I’m not sure I’d really say it’s worth it.

The OP didn't ask about attractions with fun, immersive queues, they asked about ones that have important storyline info. By that measure, I don't think MMRR is at all necessary--you get the storyline info from the little preshow and can happily skip the entire queue without missing anything important.

Indy is similar (the pre-show movie tells you you're going into a dig site and not to look into the eye--important set-up for what's to come) where most of the queue is well-detailed and fun, but doesn't contain vital story information.

I think with MF:SR you get what you need from the pre-show with Hondo, which you skip in the single rider line. So if your first time on that attraction is via single rider, you're not to going to understand the story of why you're on the Falcon and what you're supposed to do. I'm having trouble thinking of any other rides where if you were magically transported directly to the ride vehicle (or the pre-show movie), you'd lose the important storyline info.

Again, many of the queues are well-done and fun, and help immerse you in the atmosphere of the attraction, but that's a different question than the one the OP asked.

the final question of the OP was, "which queues are just really cool...", so I answered that, because Roger Rabbit was not mentioned by other posters, even though I consider it borderline interesting.

Yes, I don't think any of the queues currently at DL are integral to the story that you miss out on in the LL.

There is also the "Buddy Pass" on Monster's Inc (and Roo Pass on the winnie the pooh ride), these are similar to single rider but allow small groups (typically 1 or 2) to enter through the exit, just ask the CM. For those, Monster's Inc you would miss the story. For Winnie the Pooh, there is not much of the story in the queue. Winnie is also closed for now :(

Literally zero reason to be so condescending here. Like StevenG says above me, the OP did ask which queues are cool and worth seeing even if they aren't important to the plot (you might have missed that?), and people gave their opinions.

I didn't try it

I know it was not for a while and they did fix it...but not sure if it works today
Re the rope, you do have to wait for it to reset and sometimes the line is pushing so fast at that point (since it's after the LL merge) you don't have time. Indy was such a fun queue before FastPass I really didn't mind it. Now you just stand around outside and do nothing. I do wish Disney would bother to figure out a better way to make the merges so Stand-By could still enjoy the features of the indoor line (felt the same way about Splash and feel that way about Monsters, Inc.).

Our last trip (in April) I tried all the poles in the room with the dropping ceiling and none of them moved, so I assume they decided to eliminate that. I used to love to do it because there was always someone who was startled or surprised by it!

I think you and I must have very different definitions of condescending.

You did kind of swan in here like everyone else in the thread has no reading comprehension and you’re the only one answering the question properly. At least that’s how it sounded to me.

If I read you wrong, I apologize, but that’s the internet for you. Intent doesn’t always come across. 👍🏻

Is there anything interesting to see in the ROTR queue? Our last couple of trips we've done ILL, but I'm not sure I want to spend that money this next time - and am wondering, if we do get stuck in line for a while, whether it will at least provide a little entertainment?

The honest answer is no. It is just like walking through caves. There is seating throughout though, but the line usually moves consistently so we haven’t had to use it.
