Which Publix?

Hi all! We're leaving for the World in a week and DH will be doing a little grocery shopping while I get our DS (9m) to bed. I've heard the podcasters talk about how there's a Publix to go to and one to avoid. I've tried searching the boards, but without any luck.

Can anyone direct me, please? Thanks!!

Are you staying on site or offsite? Well, honestly, on site or off site, doesn't matter, the answer still kind of depends on your general location.

We've gone to the Publix on Sand Lake Rd but that one is much closer to Universal than WDW. When we stayed in Dreams Villas, we used the Publix at the corner of 192 and FL 536. Both were perfectly fine stores.

Perhaps it isn't surprising but Publix's website includes a link to the stores that are close to WDW: http://store.publix.com/publix/cgi/selection?design=default&lang=en&mapid=US&interest=1

If you look at the map there is a Publix not that far from AKL but if you are staying close to the MK, you may want to go to the one in Celebration.

All great answers!

The Publix in Celebration has a larger "hot food to go" section and a bit of a "gourmet" feel to it.

There is a Publix on almost every corner here in FL. The one in Celebration has a mini salad bar which was a big deal to me. It does have a different feel.

I haven't been to a bad Publix yet. Don't forget to buy the fried chicken. :) :) Baked goods are great too.

Looking for the closest to the Disney's Grand Floridian Resort.

Thank you

Robin & Angel "D" :thumbsup2

FWIW, I go to Publix on W Sand Lake Rd. in Doctor Phillips. Why? It's near the closest Tijuana Flats, no other reason.

I have done the same thing for the same reason. Though my GPS went into conniption fits in trying to find it.

Robin,

The one in Celebration would be the closest from a miles standpoint.

Just roughing it from the MK to the Publix in Celebration, taxifarefinder dot com puts one way cab fare at about $15.

I rented a car (from MCO) in December for $32.50 a day (taxes and fees included).

Ya, I would personally avoid the Dr Phillips Publix because depending on the time of day, that whole plaza in just madness. I'll give a extra thumbs up to the Celebration Publix as well.

Just left the shopping center and can confirm it's crazy. That said, the Tijuana Flats and Publix were not the cause of it. Some Seafood place and Rocco's Tacos were hopping.

I never said the madness was caused by Publix ;)

Ya, in the evening Rocco's Tacos and Eddie V's both basically take up the entire half of the parking lot, so it causes a ripple effect.

I went to happy hour at Rocco's in December and had to part in front of Publix... so that means that everyone going to the crawfish, Tijuana Flats, nail spa, etc etc place are all parking near Publix, which means that the Publix people have to park closer to Walgreens... Its all just a mess ha.

(Also, it is amusing because while the atmosphere of Rocco's and Eddie's are great, the food is average and overpriced at best. It is the first time that Kevin's 'Would this restaurant succeed outside a theme park?' theory has failed me.)

You saved me time. I saw Rocco's crowd and thought, "Maybe on my May trip..."

While I was on college program, I typically went to the Publix at I Drive and Vineland (it was about a minute away). If you go there, DO NOT go on a Sunday. I also really liked the one in Celebration.

If you were looking to do something like that, I would say go for a margarita and table-side guacamole, then go somewhere else for dinner.

I had a vendor take us to MoonFish (across the street) recently, and it is one of the best meals I've ever had.

I'm surprised no one, including me, has mentioned that there is also a Starbucks in the same shopping center.

Nice. I saw that and thought about looking up their menu. I ventured to Ravenous Pig again, still wasn't sold on the hype. Maybe next time I will try MoonFish.
