Ok so we are doing dining plan and I am trying to see if it is worth it. We are doing Chef Mickey's twice, as well as some other sit down places. Is the 6.5% added for all sit down restaurants regardless if they are buffett? Also, it is not added at counter service is it?
Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, just trying to figure out my total cost.
I know the plan includes taxes not gratuity just need to know where you pay tax in florida and where you don't.

I believe they tax at all restaurants regardless if they are TS or CS. I think it is only at the grocery store that you aren't taxed on food.

:thumbsup2not only that but, since Disney is in 2 different counties it has different tax rates depending on which county the restaurant/hotel is in.

If you pay with the DDP the tax was covered when you purchased it so you only pay the gratuity if you're using credits at a TS.

If you buy anything OOP, you pay tax.

The basic Sales Tax rate in Florida is 6.0% and is on most goods and services. The counties have an option, by vote of their residents, to add a surtax of 0.25%, 0.5%, 1.0% or 1.5% to the state rate.

Orange County, which is most of WDW, has a surtax of 0.5% so purchases (including meals) are taxed at 6.5%.

Osceola County, which has the All-Stars Resorts and Wide World of Sports in it, has a 1.0% surtax so purchases at those locations are subject to a 7.0% tax.

In addition, counties are allowed to have a tax on transient lodging. In both Orange and Osceola Counties it is 6.0%, so all lodging except the All Stars is 12.5% while the All Stars, in Osceola County, is 13.0%.

I noticed that I paid tax on a banana at the large fruitstand that is near Columbia Harbor House but not on a banana purchased at a temporary cart perhaps 50 feet away. Don't remember paying tax at any of those little carts in fact.

SOME (not all) off the snack carts include tax - it is already added into the price and it will say so. At the food carts where there is no cash register (I think) tax is already included, so that would explain your banana.

I thought there were cash registers or drawers at all of them? I don't know if tax is already included in the price of the banana or not...sure don't think it said so. But one morning, I paid $1.00 for a banana at the cart. Our next MK morning I paid $1.06 (I think) a few steps away. The 6 cents didn't bother me but the 94 cents in change sure did.:scared1:

Cute use of the banana BTW.

I do think it says taxes included on some of the signs....the popcorn cart and those that sell water come to mind.

I don't have deluxe, we just have the regular one.

It doesn't matter, any items you use your Dining Plan to "pay" for includes the tax, you only pay the gratuity at TS restaurants. Any meals you don't use the Dining Plan for you pay the taxes then.

Really?!! I did not know this! I guess you learn something new every day. Here in Mass., the tax rate is state, not county.
