Which picture do you prefer?

OK, this is just for fun (no one's feelings will get hurt)

The other day my daughter (11) and I were taking some pictures of our puppies. We each took quite a few shots, a few of which came out pretty good. I've been working on teaching my daughter some photo basics, because she really seems to have a love of shooting, so I was glad to see the results of her shots.

So, of these 2 pictures (one I took, and one she took), which do you prefer (I won't tell you who took which one yet, so as to not influence your vote - or in other words, you won't simply pick the one that the cute little girl took, rather than the grumpy old dude's shot )

Both, for different reasons.


#1 is the better composed picture in my opinion. Nice light vs. shade without blowouts, captured motion etc. It is a better technical picture.

#2 has that great expression of the puppy in that weird pose.

I like each of them for different reasons.

#1 - I like the lighting, and the focal point of the puppy in front. He looks like he is going to walk out of the shot.

#2 - I like the way the puppy is sitting, and the expressive face.

#2 - I'm a sucker for the expressions. I know very little about photography so lighting, etc. is probably not a priority for me unless the picture is too dark.

While the dog's expression in #2 is cute, the background is too busy.

I just wanted to say a huge "thank you" to everyone for voting.

My daughter was so excited to get so many votes for her shot. For quite a while it was actually tied, and she was thrilled.
She didn't know that I was going to make this thread, so when I showed her she just started cracking up.

As for the pictures, I (the old grump) did take the first one, and she (the cute kid) took the second one of the 2 puppies together.

Right now I am working with her on picture composition, so she is still shooting in automatic mode. Hopefully soon we can start working on more technical aspects, and switch the camera to more manual modes.

I'm also hoping as I work with her, that I will continue to learn so much more about shooting myself.

I like the second one better. The puppy's pose and expression crack me up.

I like them both,but 1 was my pick because in 2 the background sort of took away from the main subject of the picture in my opinion, but I love them both
