Which park to visit on New Years Day?

I’m trying to figure out which park to do on New Years Day. It’ll be me and my fiancé’s first time over New Years and I know it’ll be crazy busy. We will only be there the 30th, 31st, and 1st. We are staying at the Contemporary and are planning to do Magic Kingdom and then Epcot the first two days.

For the 1st my original plan was to go to Hollywood studios or Animal Kingdom depending on which fast pass I can get. Is there any chance I’ll get the new Toy Story rides or FOP?

Currently there’s Be Our Guest lunch reservations available and was thinking of maybe grabbing one and doing Magic Kingdom again. Not sure I want to go Magic Kingdom again, but we can walk there and it has a lot of rides so it’s more likely to have fast passes available.

I want Sci-Fi Dine In for lunch, but it’s not released yet.

Is there any chance I can get good fast passes at those two parks or should I just do Magic Kingdom twice?

Following....we are going to be there in the same time frame.

I found out that Mk does the same NYE fireworks show on Dec 30 and Dec 31. So on Dec 30 we are going to MK to see those fireworks . For on site guests they will have late magic hours till 2 am at MK that night on Dec 30. Then on Dec 31 we are going to Epcot. We have reservations in the World Showcase at Epcot at about 5 30 pm. I am told that every country in Epcot has a celebration as the New Year hour strikes in their country. I am also told that the parks will reach capacity on Dec 31 so if you plan to go into MK, arrive early and / or having a dining reservation [since that will increase your chance of entry in case the parks close for full capacity.....people with reservations for dinner are let in unless it reaches crazy capacity levels]

Goof luck . Hope some of this info is helpful. We have been to Disney lots of times but new at this super busy time....

if you are staying at the contemporary I would do MK New years eve walking back to the hotel was priceless for me last year

We did MK on 1/1 this year, although to be honest we didn't plan our day in advance. It was purposely a total "wake up and decide what we want to do" day.

Turned out to be a terribly cold, rainy, windy day and MK was dead. Like really dead. I glanced at the wait times at one point and they seemed too good to pass up - so off we went (bundled up). Turned into a great day, but it was kind of random and I'm sure the weather played a role.

We went to Epcot this year after a leisurely breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe. It was a very easy day. Of course, it was very cold and rained most of the late morning into the afternoon.

was at MK the same day and I am sure the weather played a big role in the low crowds that day was amazing

Ya I'm really excited to be able to walk to the park, will definitely help with the crowds.

Do you have park hoppers?
Yes, we have annual passes so we could go to more than one park if we wanted, but I'm thinking we'll probably just pick one. We will be driving home after the park that day.

I could see how that type of weather would help keep the crowds down. Although I'd rather it not be rainy and cold this year lol. I'm trying to figure out a dining option to go with our park, I figure it will be easier if we have somewhere to sit to eat.

Get up early on the 1st and most parks are pretty dead that morning. Of course this year like someone mentioned, it was rainy and cold ... so that helped keep the crowds down as well. Normally I would say MK on the 30th and Epcot on the 31st. However, with you being where you can walk back from MK you might prefer to see the NYE fireworks from there versus Epcot simply because it will be super easy to get back to your room.

That is a good point, I'm assuming the monorail will be crazy afterward.

I should add, if you are young and aren't worrying about hauling around three kids ... go for Epcot ... because everyone should do Epcot once on NYE. It was just a bit much for us when we were stuck in the parking lot FOREVVVVVEEEERRRRRR (which was totally my fault, but I digress).

If it were me, I would two-park the 1st. I would not book FP for that day until as late as possible so you can keep looking for both FOP and Slinky (assuming they aren't available when your window opens). Hopefully you can get one of them for two people. Then rope drop the other park (assuming you have a later FP) and do your Sci Fi lunch in the middle either way. I get it makes a longer day when you have to drive home, but I wouldn't want to miss either.
