We've been to Universal several times but never onsite. Which hotel is nicer, Portofino or Royal Pacific?

It's all about preference. We all like different things.

Now we love and will only stay at RPR.:thumbsup2

If you like upbeat, rock and roll, choose HRH.

If you like Italy and a big plush resort, choose PBH.

If you like tropical south pacific with laid back atmosphere, choose RPR.

If room size matters.
Standard rooms size are:

RPR 335 sq ft
HRH 375 sq ft
PBH 445 sq ft

You can't go wrong with any of the three.

The answer is it depends. What theme appeals to you most? Portofino is more opulent with larger rooms.

since it is only two of you, any of the onsite hotels would have sufficient space for your stay.

i prefer RPH as it is very close to City Walk.
I like the food at a lot of the establishments there.

I also really enjoy the ambiance of RPH.

all my needs are meet at this hotel.
4 places for dining, nice pool, great staff.

The RPH is the favorite hotel of my wife and I because of its theme, location and restaurants.

The HRH is the least favorite. It's a nice hotel, but just didn't appeal to us. It didn't help that we had inferior room service the one time we stayed there.

IMO, the PBH is the most beautiful of the three resorts, but as it's the farthest from Citywalk/the parks, and is usually the most expensive of the onsite hotels, it remains as our second choice for onsite hotels.

I agree with the pp's. It's up to your own personal taste, do you want the tropical landscape or the Italian villa?

For DH and I if we were traveling alone Portofino would win. Don't get me wrong, we love RPR and have stayed a total of 13 nights there since last September. RPR does seem to have more children running around though, perfect for our DD who loves to have someone to play with at the pool, not so much if you are looking for a little more peace and quiet.

Personal taste..We loved PBH..It is further away , but still walkable , and has a secluded feel.Still lots of kids there, but more kids tend to be at the RPR and HRH

We thought RPH was great for just a couple + you get the same benefits for less $$.

The room was not huge but fine for just us two. I didn't find it to be really "deluxe" though. Kept comparing it to the Disney ones we have stayed in.

It is closer to walk to IOA. A lovely path leads right to the entrance.
