I am new here and I am planning a orlando (mainly disney) vacation in September 2013. I only want to spend one day at the universal parks. I don't want to do both parks, so which one would you suggest.. Universal or Islands of Adventure?

islands of adventue is the best in my opinion, universal has gone down the rides are not as great as they used to beback in the days of back to the future, king kong earthquake etc.

islands of adventure have great rides - jurrasic park, popeye's barges, ripsaw and the hulk !!

If I HAD to pick just one then it would have to be IoA. It has great rides, WWOHP, and each island is wonderfully themed. You can't go wrong with this choice.

I would pick IOA too.

But I would see if you can fit 2 days and do both. Why come all this way to see half?

i'm a rebel.
i would do the studios.

go to the uo website and see what is in each park to help you make a decision.

if you find 9 things at ioa you have to do and only 3 at the studios, that will help you decide.

The best thing you can do at this point is check out the website and see which park holds more interest for you. Also check You Tube for ride videos.

It's very easy to walk from one park to the other. My daughter and I did this last year. We would spend a part of the day in one park and then head over to do the other one. This way you get the best out of both parks!

In deciding which one if you are only doing one:

Universal Studios has more shows

IOA - More rides and they are thrill rides! (And Harry Potter!)

Definitely Islands of Adventure. Nothing can compete with Wizarding World of Harry Potter:wizard:

Currently.... I'd also have to saw if I could only do 1 park, I'd do IOA. With Jaw's closing and the fact US has a lot of great shows that require a bit more planning to see, IOA would probably be the easiest to see (and then redo your favorites) in a single day.

But... It really is good advice to check out the website to see what each park has. US has some great rides, and some amazing shows that are really worth checking out. If you only have a single day you may find that with your touring style and interests that one park is more interesting than the other.

IOA - water rides, coasters, potter, Marvel (my pick for one day)

US - some great rides (mummy, RR Coaster, MIB) and good shows.

check out the web site.

Until Harry Potter came along, I would have chosen the Studios. I love the Simpsons, Men in Black, the Horror show and grabbing a Starbucks before listening to the Blues Brothers. The Mummy's Revenge is my favorite ride anywhere. Nowadays I'm more on the fence.

Both parks are good stuff though, you can't go wrong.

since you are going in the fall of 2013, there could be additions to the studio side.

and you never know what changes will happen for ioa.

I prefer Universal, but I have to say if you are just going to do one park and you have never been IOA would probably be a better choice.

You have to experience the WWPH, Spiderman and the Hulk if you like coasters.

I prefer the Mummy, Rip Ride Rockit, Finnegans and the smaller crowds at Universal.

Crowd levels are going to increase once Despicable Me opens but not by a lot...I wouldn't imagine. Smaller crowds will be gone once the Jaws replacement opens...whatever it turns out to be.

It depends on what type of an experience you're looking for.

My kids love thrill rides and are coaster junkies. They would pick IOA.

I like shows, some milder rides, and 3D movies. I'd pick US.

You didn't say who was in your party but IMO there is not alot at IOA for young children, just the Cat in the Hat area. I think US has a little more to offer for them and more for a family group.

If you have people who less adventurous, I'd have to say US. Spent a full day there today with my kids and they prefer it to IOA. They are tween boys, but don't like roller coasters, so some of the "better" rides at IOA are out for them. And one of them really doesn't like to get wet, which rules out most of the others.

I think that the Unofficial Guide has super descriptions of the rides at both places. If you could pick up one of those - esp used - it could help you decide what works best for you.

Thanks for the replies.. It's going to be my then 6year old, my hubby, and I. I'm not thrill rides, but I know my hubby and son loves them. We may do the two parks in the same day. We are going to be in orlando for 10 days.. 4 days disney, 1 day water park, 2 off/shopping days, 1 beach day, 1 seaworld, and 1 day un/ioa.. I'm even going to try to fit Gatorland in for my son.. He loves alligators and he would love it. I still have a lot of planning and reworking in my schedule. It all depends on how many vacation days that my husband can get off for.
