I have to decide soon, should I go to Disneyland in late Aug or Disneyworld in January 2011? Was just in DW last January. It certainly would be cheaper to go to FL since I live in the east but to be able to go to sunny ca....wwyd?:confused3

If you're talking 2 days at Disney I would go with Land. Hotter weather, shorter waits, one park per day!

If longer, go to World. You can't really spend more than 3 days at Disneyland unless you visit other California attractions. Definitely doable but traffic is terrible :confused3

There's just so much more to do at World. More accommodation options. More parks. More rides. More food.

OH, but if you HAVEN'T been to DL at all, try it! Hope I haven't confused you more ;)

DL is a smaller "experience" but still lots of fun! We've only been able to do one day at DL due to family dynamics (visit the relatives), but I would LOVE to have another day to explore.

It isn't the "World" in sheer size but, it is rather compact and more intimate IMO.

If you haven't been to California, or want a reason to visit again, I would say go for it! :yay:

P.S. If you have kids under 12, and you will rent a car, I would highly recommend Legoland too.

Depending on your family size and ages. DL at a minimum may take 3 days. But late August can be one of the busiest times, you may want to make that 4 or 5 days. It has to do with almost 1 million Annual Passholders most of whom were blocked from visiting all summer. Don't believe that DL has shorter waits, especialy comparing August there compared to Jan at WDW. They are about opposites.

This calender gives you a rough idea. It's from the second least blocked group of APs.

Still if you haven't been to DLR you should check it out. It will make the decision much hard in the future.

I do love the intimacy and compactness of DL, but I agree with above poster that DL in August will be very crowded.

thanks to all for the feedback, i have always wanted to go to ca, though the main reason for going is to the zoo in san diego. I also want to tour the sites around la, disneyland looked like a 1-2 day trip at the most. I do understand that it is quite smaller than dw. my teenagers are 17 and 19 and once my son saw that legoland is mostly for kids, he changed his mind :sad1:

You should look up The San Diego Zoo and The San Diego Wild Animal Park. They are connected business wise but are generally confused for each other. For older kids you might want to goto Hollywood Blvd and Santa Monica pier and Venice beach. That will get you a good California experience.

The new show World of Color also opens at Disneyland this month. That will make August even busier, but it would be cool to be able to see this new show.

I think we all should be able to go to each park at least once a year. :) :) I know that isn't reality it is just what i think. haha

My family takes a Disney trip every year, whether it be the Land, World or a Cruise....we can't get enough Disney.

We spent 2 weeks in California last August (spending 4 days at Disney) and thought it was a great time of year to go (3 years before that, we also went in August). Living in the midwest we are so used to the heat and humidty. The heat in California with NO humidty was wonderful. You would step in some shade and the temp would go down 10 degrees.

One of the things we like about the Land is that all of our favorite rides we like in the world are also at the land. So we spend our time comparing the little differences and some we like better at the world and some we like better at the land.

Having the 2 parks so close together made it so easy to hop back and forth depending on our moods. Since the 2 parks are not connected with fastpasses, we could hold one for each park at the same time. So before we would leave and take a break for the day we would get a fastpass at each of the parks and then when we come back all rested....we have no lines to stand in.

This year I will be at the world in July....yikes, talk about crowds and heat....I get them both and will love every minute of it :woohoo:

No matter what you choose, you will have fun no matter what!

You live in Chicago. My 2nd home, we travel there a lot for sports, entertainment and fun.

You are welcome to come along....my family talks about how cool it would be to live IN DISNEY. We each have our favorite place in Disney we would live. Mine is the Castle of course, my one son would love it live in Tower of Terror....I know how creepy.:scared1:
