Which one for senior citizens with mobility challenges: YC, Poly, or CR?

For Christmas, we will be giving DH's parents, aunt and uncle one or two nights at a WDW hotel. Our choices are limited to resorts in the DVC "Disney Collection." And, to make it nice, I'd like to put them up in a Deluxe. We've ruled out GF cuz it's too many points and AKL cuz it's off the beaten path. This leaves Polynesian, Yacht Club, and Contemporary.

They'll probably check-in on Jan 1 so, considering crowds that time of year, I doubt they'll go to the parks. DFiL (70) and Uncle (60) both have A LOT of trouble walking distances, yet they're too proud to rent a scooter.

Which resort would you recommend? This late in the game, it will probably come down to what's available. But, I'd still like to hear suggestions.

We enjoyed the Poly and would return, but wouldn't go that route for your situation. Rainy days necessitate a walk outside to go to CGH for meals, etc. which could be an issue for those with mobility challenges. If weather was the only consideration I'd vote Contemporary for ease of getting to the monorail and food within the building.

I would only do the Contemporary if you are going to put them in the tower. Some of the rooms in the Garden Wings can be a hike from the main building. The Poly has multiple buildings, so they could end up far from the boat dock, monorail, and/or bus stop. The Yacht Club is all one building, but it is a walk to both the boat, and the bus stop from either spot.

If they are going just to enjoy the resort, I'd say the Poly is probably the best because they could sit on the beach and watch the fireworks from the beach, and take the monorail to the other monorail resorts and pop around.

I'd also vote for the Contemporary. The escalator to the monorail, restaurants, and shops are all on the 4th floor. If they had a castle view, they will also be able to see the fireworks at MK. I've heard the morning of New Year's Day is fairly empty in the parks since everyone was up late the previous night.

I would go for the Contemporary also, tower rooms.

I agree with Karen put them in the tower, wow that doesn't sound nice, lol. CR tower room perhaps with handicapped accessibility.

Wow I would vote for YC. Because they could take the boat to Epcot if they want, they have tons of choices for food in the BC/YC, BW, Epcot area. They could even take the boat to the Boardwalk if thats too far to walk.
Even better, try for the illumination cruise, they will get up front seats with very little walking.
Get them a one day pass to Epcot, they could take the boat, while it will still be a lot of walking they could just do a small portion of it and have lunch, Do the French movie (nice comfy seats), sit down and have wine or dessert in France, check out England and take the boat home.
It's expensive to buy a one day ticket for a short foray into Epcot but at least they could say they made it into the parks. I know that would be enough for my parents (although they would kill me if they ever found out how much a ticket cost), but for a special occasion it sounds like it's worth it.

the monrail is nice. but it almost closed on Mother getting in once....

I would go with some resort that has everything close - WL is very nice - they don't have to long a walk to the buses. POFQ is also nice and nothing is too far - but it is in separate building.

Mother (82) loves the Polyn - but loves the Cont even more.

I know about the refusing to get stuff - mother use to refuse any chair - then I had surgery and we were going to the parks in 4 weeks - my doctor say only if I get a wheelchair. Since the wheelchair was for me - mother didn't have a fit. Well by the third day she was using the chair more than me....and since then I have always gotten her a wheelchair. Too bad you can't do the same thing. Of course knee surgery is not to be wished on anybody.
