Which of these rollercoasters are REALLY rollercoasters?

Okay, so I'm off to Disney in two weeks. This will be my third trip and, never having been the biggest fan of rollercoasters, Big Thunder Mountain is usually as far as I go.

The thing is, I don't mind going fast, don't sharp turns, don't even mind loops or corkscrews. It's the drops that do me in. Just can't stomach them. Again, Big Thunder Mountain is about my limit, drop-wise.

But what I'm wondering is, what are the drops like on Space Mountain, Indianna Jones, and the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster? Much worse than Big Thunder Mountain? Because I'd hate to think I'm missing out on rides because I'm thinking they'll be way worse than they are.

Any help would be lovely. :goodvibes

Those 3 are proper roller coasters & have loops & inversions on them. Space Mountain can be quite rough, along with Indiana Jones. I tend to find Rock n Roller coaster the smoothest out of the 3.

I don't think any of them have drops like Thunder Mountain as the drops there are, are incorperated to the loops & corkscrews. They go so fast you don't realise.

I'm a huge fan of rollercoasters but I hated Indiana Jones! It was really rough and I felt a bit sick at the end. None of them have any drops, Thunder Mountain is the only one with a bit of a drop really. You must do the Rock N Roller coaster. Great fun and no drops, at least none you're aware of as it's so dark!

I have never been on R'n'R with out ear ache and not because of the loud music but because my head rattles between the seats. But still a brilliant ride :D

Indiana Jones I wouldnt bother walking the long line just to get to it. Its such a short ride!

Space Mountain I love this ride

Also Crush Coaster is a brilliant ride have you tried this one?

be advised that crush is a 80 minutes wait on very calm days, and fastpasses are not avalaible.
Sometimes they have single riders lane, but I don't know as of now. Single rider is, in my opinion, the only option to ride that ride, unless you want to spend over an hour (and probably 2) in the biting cold (and I mean cold)

RNRC is great, but the launch is rather rough. After that it's just roller coaster heaven

Space mountain is rough and of no real interest since they moved it to mission 2

Indy is short, but the ride looks great

BTM is always a winner, even though I tend to think it's the one with the smallest adrenalin rush. But the theme is so great that it's still one of the busiest and most enjoyable

I would never do Rollercoasters that looped and then I got talked into doing R'n'R and absolutely loved it! This time round I also did Space Mountain but didn't think much of it (compared to R'n'R).

I also loved Crush and as it was quiet the longest we waited was 20 minutes so went on it a few times.

R'n'R is my all time favourite.

Good girl!!! :thumbsup2

SM has a drop right after you hit the top of the launch from the cannon.

Don't recall any drops in RnR.

Crush has a long drop at the the very start and it isn't much fun if you're going down backwards and not spinning :)

My favourite is SM as I like the theming and atmosphere. RnR is okay but the times I've been on most of the lights haven't been working.

If you're okay with BTM then I think you will be fine with these.

I love roller coasters, especially with big drops so the roller coasters at DLP were disappointing for me in that aspect. But great as far as theming and entertaining. I didn't ride BTM because dd was too short and we were never around when it was a good time for us to do baby switch.

Rock n Roll was my favorite! It was nice because the music and lights, it was just light enough so you could see the track coming up and was very smooth (no head boxing for me).

Indiana Jones was good, short wait, pretty smooth, and even without the big drops was still pretty fast. I also liked that it wasn't in the dark, so I could see what was going on.

Crush- was a fun one, but I wouldn't wait in line a long time to go on it. I didn't see a single rider line but wish there was one as lots of cars were going with 3 people in them. I had to wait 25 minutes (quoted wait time was very accurate) on a Friday afternoon, the wait in the morning was 45 minutes.

Space Mountain was lots of fun, probably the most thrilling out of all of them, especially with the launch at the beginning. I didn't really like it though because it was really rough. I pushed my head back as hard as I could and still got boxed around a lot. Also if you are wearing earrings, take them out first. I wasn't even thinking about this and wish I would have taken them out.

For people who like drops you are going to have to do the Tower of Terror. I didn't think I was going to like this ride, but it ended up being one of my favorites. ;)

i have been on everything in dlrp and there are only 2 rides which made my stomach go funny.

tower of terror and the RC racer in toystory land.

the others are either just fast or jerky or in darkness!

Thanks for the replies, folks!

I think I'll probably force myself to give R'n'R and Indie a go, maybe Space Mountain, depending on how brave I feel when I'm standing outside. :rotfl:

I did do Crush Coaster last year, but only because I had no idea what the actual ride was like! Seriously, from the its placement next to the kid-friendly Cars ride and Toy Story Playland, I didn't think it would be a problem. Also, the "Top Ten Things To Know Before You Go" on the hotel TV made it look like a nice, family ride. Blatant lies!

Still, even though my stomach went mental, it was good fun. I think, because its in the dark and you can't see the drops coming, it wasn't so bad. Maybe that's my problem, maybe I just overthink things? :confused3

They tried fastpass once but soon dropped the idea
SR lines have been seen but not on a regular basis (if it hasn't been dropped at all) probably only a test

You were lucky to only wait 25 minutes. I assume it was a weekday, because on weekends and on wednesday it becomes hectic (not mentionning French holidays)

If you're on a "crush-or-die" plan, there are some very rare EMH days at Studio.
the next EMH at studios' are this weekend, 3rd and 4th December from 8am to 9am

Yes! We just got back and did Crush on the last day. Holy mother of all things Disney, what on earth are they thinking!

I intend to email Disney complaining about that Ad, and asking them at what point do they think the ride rotates at a moderate speed with family members smiling and pointing out the bubbles and colours. It gives you a quick burst of speed, which you expect from seeing the outside, then the advertised pleasant bit with the screens to see, and then throws you into a dark, spinning hell.

I confess, I'm not a Roller-Coaster person. But i decided that everything that there was to be known about Crush showed it to be moderate enough to try. Dear god, my ankles are aching now just writing about it...

RE Rock n Roller - I also get the ear bashing but not so much as on Space Mountain - really have to push my head back on the seat headrest on this one - maybe its a height thing - it doesnt happen to DD or DH who are taller - I'm 5ft 3in.

I agree with the Indiana Jones comments - still usually ride though - it's fairly easy to get FP's for this one. Nothing like the DLR one though in Anaheim - that is superb - totally different type of ride though - not a rollercoaster.

Also for the first time ever earlier this year I was so sick on Crush - rode early morning (it was a special event in March) without eating so put it down to that - so eat first.

We tend to go when the weather is cold so I always wear a wooly hat, pulled down over my ears, and them make sure my head is pushed right back.

I did do SM 6 times one EMH and that did give me a headache, but a couple of times I'm fine.

I know, right?! My cousins, who'd been on it before and knew I was not a rollercoaster guy, were telling me "I wouldn't, it's not your thing." But I was like, it's a Finding Nemo ride. How bad can it possibly be?

And that footage on the room TV is just false advertising. I think this year I'll stand outside it and warn people before they get in line!

I don't mind coasters but I did feel sick after crush due to the fact that my daughter and I did the whole thing backwards, the shell just didn't spin.

The shell spinning depends on the combined weight of the 4 people in the ride - the lighter the weight the more you will spin

I prefer to go forwards to start but generally end up backwards at the end - I've only unlucky once and never really spun

It's prob. my favourite ride, shame that the waiting times are so long :goodvibes
