Please give me your advice on Good Neighbor Hotels...

Here is my list, which one(s) should I stay at or stay away from?!

Best Western Park Place Inn
Tropicana Inn
Carousel Inn
Park Inn
Park Vue

Things that are important to me:
-cleanliness!! (floors, bedding, bathroom...)
-somewhat newly remodled
-walking distance (I think I have that covered with these all being close)
-any special perks (I'm not asking for a 5 star, but anything I should know about)
-cont. breakfast is a bonus but my kids are 3 and 1 so they usually eat oatmeal and fruit.

Or is there any other place worth looking into? TIA!

I can't rule out any, as I have only stayed at one of them.

I can rule in Best Western Park Place Inn. Complimentary continental breakfast, clean room (some with fridges and microwaves), right across from the main entrance to both parks. :thumbsup2

we are going to be stayin at the Hyatt~ it looks fabulous and thanks to expedia we basicaly just paid for our airfare and admission!

Another :thumbsup2 for Best Western Park Place. I don't know anything about the rest but you can get info on tripadvisor.com

Same here. Stayed at the Park Inn,now the Camelot Inn,very close, recently remodeled (last year,I think).Standard continental breakfast, great view of the fireworks from the 4th floor pool. Will stay there again (in 2008).

We stayed at HOJO which is not on your list and loved it. I bit further, but if the kids are in a stroller, no problem for the adults. The room was big the service great and we loved the pool.

We stayed at the Hyatt through Priceline a few years ago and were very disappointed with the service (and the room). It was NOT was I've come to expect from Hyatt.

Park Inn was not my favorite of our stays. Location was great, the rooms were much smaller than other hotels just as close (and same price range). Plus their "breakfast" was much more limited than offered at other hotels (also some stuff you had to pay for that is offered free at other hotels).

We use trip advisor ever time we travel, which has been a huge help! I have also used expedia and a few other sites to get reviews. I am so undecided on which one to go with. I had planned to book through Costco again but it looks like only the Best Western PPI and Carousel are available through them that are on my list. We have stayed at many places that are not next door, but this trip I think it will be much easier not to deal with two stroller and two little ones on the transit.

Are the rooms any bigger at any of the above listed hotels??

Is it worth the money to upgrade to a "suite" or bigger room??

TIA!

If you're talking about the Hyatt Regency, then I just stayed there from 12/18-12/22. It was very nice but not suited to young families. If you have a car, then they will charge you $15/day for parking. Want a fridge? $15 per stay and it was not in our room when we checked in so it took all night to cool down. Continental bfast? Forget it. HR is a great business traveler hotel, but I'm going to aim lower (2 star) on Priceline next time or just pay the rate listed in the AAA book for a two room suite across from the parks. To HR's credit, they did run a shuttle that stops at one other hotel before getting to the parks. During heavy periods, they had a backup shuttle.

I second your posting. I stayed at the Hyatt a few years back and it was terrible! The outside and lobby were nice, but the standard room I stayed in was disgusting! I think they have updated since then though.

We stayed at the Carosel Inn. It was decent, the breakfast was really sparse (we ended up eating out instead...OUCH for the wallet). The rooms were ok, the queen bed was really a double bed (we have a queen at home, so I felt the difference). THe rooms are clean. If I went tomorrow (I wish!) I wouldn't stay there, I would pick another good neighbor hotel. THe only good thing was the location, but there are other choices with that location as well.

I have stayed at the Best Western PPINN. and I would again. I would NOT stay 4 doors down at the Best Western Anaheim Inn. For no other reason than for the same price you get a breakfast buffet at the Park Place.

You didn't include The Candy Cane Inn in your list. We just got back and loved the CCI. The breakfast was fruit, cold cereal, oatmeal, danish and bagels. The free breakfast and free parking saved us a lot of money. There was a small frig which we stocked with drinks. The room was a little small, but sparkling clean. Everything looked pretty new and the free shuttle was great! We walked (approx. 10 minute walk from front door of CCI to bag check at DL) in the morning and took the shuttle back in the evening.

PS Free wireless internet access! The staff could not have been nicer.

Hi,

I spent hours upon hours trying to decide exactly where to stay for our December holiday trip last year. In the end I went by quite a few suggestions for Candy Cane Inn. LOL! By the name alone, I was a bit hesitant to book there, but so many on several boards had been so complimentary I took a good look at it.

We typically stay at deluxes at WDW (YC and BWI), but a previous stay at the Grand Californian was more money than we felt it was worth. The DL Hotel where we had stayed in the 1990s was not available for our dates.

I booked at the Candy Cane Inn and wasn't sure it was the right decision until we checked into our room. We had our room available for an early checkin and the room was clean, clean, clean. For the entire stay from Dec. 23 through Dec. 31 we were very satisfied with all aspects of the hotel.

And we spent about 1/3 of the $$$ for lodging that we would have spent for GC with what appeared to be a shorter walk from our hotel to the main gate.

Check tripadvisor.com for comments as well.

Enjoy!

With kids under 8 yrs, the Candy Cane in at least a 10 min walk, or they have a shuttle which means you have to plan your Disney arrivals and exits by a shuttle schedules. Not what I want while I'm vacationing. If you are looking for a clean, decent place to sleep and the shortest possible walk, and have a free continental breakfast, the Best Western Park Place Inn is the way to go.

Thanks everyone for your info! We have decided on the BWPPI because it is very close. We had originally planned to stay at the Candy Cane Inn but walking back for naps and for the night with two strollers, a 3 year only and a 1 1/2 year old is a bit far. I don't want to have to fuss with unloading our strollers to get on the shuttle...eventhough I have only heard great things about the CCI and how fast and prompt the shuttle is. So we ruled that out right away unfortuneately. I agree with Teacherdad to a T about the BBW. Thanks again everyone...info is priceless. I would still love to hear more from others about hotels in the Dland area for future trips too!

Woo Hoo! We are booked at The Park Place Inn, so I'm happy to hear all the good reviews.
