Which nightclubs at City Walk can we take our 12 yo. DS to

Our 12 yo. DS is a real music buff. He mostly likes rock and roll from the 60's to 90's. Is there anyplace, in City Walk, where we can all hangout after the parks close? I can't see him doing much dancing, so we would mostly be just chillin' and listening to the music.

Thanks in advance! :Pinkbounc

Motown Cafe has good music from several decades. They also have an arcade downstairs.

Wow, it looks like late night entertainment is extremely limited at UO, if you're not 21. With this being a tourist mecca with as many kids(especially teenagers) as adults, you'd think that they would anticipate that people wouldn't be turning in as soon as the parks close. They should have more PG entertainment. ;)

Thanks RescueRanger for the suggestion. This sounds like something we will definitely want to try. We are by no means partiers, so this sounds more to our liking than a club. Is there a place near the arcade where my husband and I can hangout, listen to the music, and still keep an eye on our DS. (12 yo. is just not old enough to be left unattended IMO) Also how late can we be in there with him?

SpideyHulk24,
Tell me more about late night at HRC. I've eaten there many times, but I've never been in there late. I thought that this was strictly a restaurant. What can we expect in the form of entertainment?

Anyone else have any late night suggestions?

Thanks again! :Pinkbounc

You enter Motown on the second floor. This is the floor where the restaurant is located. It is set up like a record with the seating done in a circle. There is a hole in the middle of the dining room which looks down on the arcade on the first floor, so I guess you could ask for a table near the middle so you could see him in the arcade. As far as other places go, we also went to Margaritaville which was alot of fun. They play Jimmy Buffett music, guys on stilts make balloon animals, and there is a volcano which erupts margarita mix. However, this place gets packed after park hours and there are usually long waits. Although we didn't go there, I hear that NBA City has a game room near the restaurant which could be another option. If you are into Nascar, Nascar Cafe also has a game room and the food was pretty good.

I too have 2 teenagers I'm bringing, and I know they would love to go for some of the entertainment like at Margaritaville. Can we just go there and have pop and an appetizer? Is there a minimum amount we have to spend? If we have City Walk passes (included with the five day pass) do we have to wait?

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think Motown would be alot more fun for you, but at HRC, there is great music, the waiters/waitresses dance and all that good stuff. They also have a venue next door for concerts, etc, but I think that is over 21 as well.

This info has been helpful for us too as we'll be in US at the beginning of August with our 15 year old. It's hard, isn't it, when they're wanting something a bit 'grown-up' but the age limits are high for things they would actually quite enjoy. Our daughter would love to listen to the duelling piano thing or any jazz but I think all those venues are for over 21's. Thankfully she adores Motown (as long as it's classic 60's/early 70's stuff. What me, brainwash her - NEVER!!!) so we know the Motown cafe will be a hit.

(goes off into a daydream..'sugarpie honeybunch, you know that I love you...this old heart of mine..........ooh ooh, babylove...)

RescueRanger (or anyone else ;)),
How early do we need to get to Motown to have a shot at getting a table in the middle?

jubileegirl,
I totally agree about Pat O'Briens and CityJazz. What is it about these two venues that makes them adult only at night? I didn't realize that there was anything that obscene about dueling pianos. :D And Jazz; I consider it more than appropriate for any child willing to listen to it. My son is one of those kids who would love it. I have to admit that we never go anywhere without our son ( He saw one of my posts the other day and quickly corrected me. He says he hates Disney and doesn't want to be labeled as a DS..), so we haven't been into either of these places late at night. Maybe I'm missing something about them that would make them adult only.

RescueRanger and SpideyHulk24,
Thanks again for all the help!

RescueRanger and SpideyHulk24,
Thanks again for all the help!

Because Citywalk has decided to make the clubs an adult only location after 9pm. There doesn't have to be any other reason. Obviously, they are finding it lucrative to maintain this practice, otherwise they would change things.

I know the Groove sometimes has teen nights, maybe your son would enjoy that and you and your spouse could enjoy some of the other clubs while he is there if there is a teen night going on during your visit.

As far as the duelling pianos bar in Pats being obscene - trust me, depending on the crowd, it can get very raunchy. Although Howl at the Moon is usually much more explicit, Pats can get pretty bad at times. Honestly though, the piano players at Pats suck compared to those at Jellyrolls or Howl so your son isn't missing much.

Thanks for the heads up about Pat O'Brien's. So what's it like before 9pm? Not the same, I hope. We have a GC to eat there, and I have no interest in being in an atmosphere like that myself. :(

Before 9pm the courtyard a Pat O'Briens is filled with people - adults, families, etc, enjoying some good food and drinks. Honestly, the courtyard is lovely all night long. On Tuesdays they have 2-fer-Tuesday with 1/2 price Hurricanes (and other speciality drinks, but you don't get the souvenir glass during this time) and 1/2 price appetizers (the New Orleans Spicey Cheese Fries are yummers) from I think 5 until 10. So Tuesday is a great night to go and get the most bang out of your GC.

The courtyard is separate from the piano bar section and is open air so if it is raining you're in trouble. But if it isn't raining it is a great place to relax and enjoy some good food and drinks.

Oh and also...if you do go there to eat, try to get Michael as your server. He is really terrific. Bryan and Marquise are great too but Michael is the best.

Thanks for the quick reply. Now I'm looking forward to going there. :D I was a little concerned. Sounds like I may have to rethink our dining plans, and try to work this one in for Tue. :p What is the latest we could get there and be able to enjoy a relaxing dinner, before it's time to get our son outta there? Also, anything else especially good on the menu? Thanks for the help! :Pinkbounc

2-fer-Tuesdays are excellent, lol. Unfortunately, we usually just stop by for drinks after work so I don't know much about the food except for the cheese fries. My co-worker recommends the bourbon street chicken - says it was very good.

As far as dinner, I think you can go in anytime before 9pm for dinner, but I would probably say maybe 8pm just to be safe. I know that after 9pm is when they start checking IDs before letting people in. And you really don't have to worry about getting your son out of there. Even when things get rowdy, it is usually much later in the evening when most people have had a hurricane or 3. Also, as far as I know, they only seat for dinner in the courtyard which tends to stay pretty mellow all evening.

Maybe someone who has been there specifically for dinner can give some more info...
