I am considering going from Value to Mod - we are currently booked at Pop Century from July 1-9th. I have the opportunity to get a Moderate at an exceptional rate (only ~170 bucks more for 8 nights to go from Value to Mod) and I'm thinking I'd be nuts to turn it down........

OKay - here's the burning question that gets asked weekly -

Which mod would you choose?

A little about us: we aren't really hard to please - we stayed at AS Music last time and had a great time! We don't need a whole lot of fancy surroundings -We are a family of 4 - me, hubby and two girls - they will be newly 8 and newly 5 then. I don't care for a really spread out resort with lots of walking (I'm sure we'll get enough of that in the parks - LOL) We want a food court (we will be doing some light meals (sandwiches/bagels,etc) in our room. We'd like a fun pool for the girls - they can both swim, so maybe a pool slide or themed pool would be fun!

Which mod would you suggest?

Please help me decide!

It sounds to me like POFQ is perfect for you. Nice food court, themed pool with a cute slide, not very spread out. It seems like the biggest complaints for CBR and CSR is that they are very spread out. Some areas of POR are considered to be rather remote as well. POFQ is smaller but gives you all the ammenities of a moderate resort. Plus, you can use the pool at POR as well and it's a short boat ride to DtD from there.

For less walking POFQ. we have stayed there and also at POR and CSR and POFQ is clearly the most intimate.

Another vote for either of the Port Orleans resorts!

::yes:: and you can take a boat to downtown Disney from there too..

I loved POFQ but CSR is so pretty. They also have a great pool. Okay that was completely unhelpful, sorry. Have fun making your decision.

For the pool stuff, CSR is your best bet. Wonderful pool area, longest slide, and huge hot tub. It is spread out, but not as many bus stops, as CBR.

We stayed by the pool. literally 15 seconds walk. We were able to fill our mugs at the pool side bar. We really don't use the food court much anyway, so it did not bother us that it was a walk.

It is by far my fave. moderate. I've never stayed at FQ, but out of the others, I'd stay at CSR, in a heartbeat.

The pool area alone at CSR is worth a stay there! Its fantastic! :sunny:

Okay guys - I took the plunge! I called yesterday and POFQ was not available for my dates, but POR (didn't ask for CSR or CBR because the overwhelming majority at that point had said POR or POFQ!) was so I booked it! It was a difference of 179 bucks, but that still made it $88 a night including taxes, which is still less than we usually pay for a Hampton Inn in any rinky dink old city.

Finances are tight and my hubby doesn't know I've upgraded - LOL - (I'm solely paying for this trip via my ebay sales and subbing occasionally at my daughter's preschool, so I do have the right to keep it quiet - at least for now!) I don't want to tell him right now - because he may think we need to switch back to POP (which would totally be okay if the finances ultimately point us in that direction, but this is a great opportunity that I don't want to pass up) but I want to see if I can earn the extra $$ for the upgrade.

Anyway - enough rambling - I'm very excited about this - gotta get to listing some auctions! So far the weekly payments that I've made for the hotel (deposit and then some) is completely xxx'd out by my upgrade, so I'm back to my original balance again......argh!

Thanks everyone for your input! It was a hard decision - knowing how Disney does things, I'm sure none are awful! I'll be happy wherever we stay (as long as it's onsite!). Now I have to figure out where in POR to stay and obsess over finding photos of the resort! :rotfl:

If you want the best pool of all the moderates, no shared transportation, and a great food court, CSR is the place. Check out my CSR website below for pics, links and info. You DD's will love the main pool area. Playground, the jaguar slide, and the opening ceremony.

Soooooo jealous. Are you going to confess how you got the great rate? I'm going to start crying when you say e-mail or postcard, which Disney seems pretty determined to not send me!

Have a great trip!!!! DH and I have a ressie for POFQ in May, but looks like we may have to cancel b/c he is going to be in a two week training session for his job.

we always stay at the CSR when we go for the reason that it is very kids friendly. My kids love the pool and dig site the best out of all the resorts. we have stayed at quite a few over the years and all the moderate ones since we have had kids and this is their favorite. They have a great selection at the pepper market for food. we love to ride the surry bikes and feed the fish. the hammocks down by the water are heavenly and the kids always bring their sand pails and soccer balls to play with in the common grounds. You really cant go wrong for the money. they now have refrigerators in the room which is a big plus also. have a great time

Congrats on your decision! It's really a lovely resort! Our only complaint about POR was the buses, but others have not had that problem. Double check when you get there if the busses still stop at POFG first before going to POR. If they do, then one day pack your suits and leave the parks and return to POFQ, After enjoying that pool, you can just catch any bus over to POR (Saves a little walk)

POR is great. :) And , I think you can use the pool at POFQ because they are "sister" resorts...I would ask about it at check in.

POR is absolutely beautiful. You will love it!

I just checked All Ears.net and the word there is you may use the pool at POFQ as well. :)

Good choice on POR, we stayed their last time with my kids (girls 9 & 5, boy 4) and they still talk about the pool, dining hall, playground, boat ride....you get the idea. Next to housing, food is the only varible cost you can reduce to make up the difference. If you are flying in, you may want to consider a limo service that would stop at a super market (this is better than Meyers!!!). We did that and saved a bunch!!! We got a lot of "grab n go" foods at the super market, which we would use for breakfast and snacks in the park, as well as late night raids. $150 of food lasted the whole week, and we even brought some home. Either way, you'll have a blast!!!

We are now DVC members but love POR so much that we go there once every WDW trip for a meal and a boat ride to DTD, just because of all the happy memories we have of past POR stays. We always felt as though the Magnolia Bend rooms seemed closer to the lobby than the Alligator Bayou rooms, so maybe you could mention at check-in that a closer room would be better for you.
