My DD and I will be traveling to WDW in October to celebrate her 13th bday. I am recently diagnosed with severe arthritis in my feet and ankles so will definately be using an ecv (we used a w/c for our DEC trip but had DH to push on the days when I needed the w/c). I am wondering which mod--CBR or POFQ better meets our needs. For instance do they have hot tubs in addition to the pools. How far to the bus stops. Which would be able to house a folded up w/c and an ecv. We would also be open to suggestions of other resorts ( I don't need a "handicapped" room just a place to park my princess coach). Thanks so much for any advice. Cheryl :goodvibes

OK, here's my views on the subject:

POFQ is the smaller of the two resorts, by a long way, so would mean shorter distances to the main building and the bus stop.

CBR has larger bedrooms, though if there are only two of you, I can't see you having any problem fitting the ECV into either resort.

CBR does not have elevators in every building, so if you went there, you would have to put in a request for "ground floor for medical reasons".

Not sure about hot-tubs, I'm afraid.

To help give you a feel for the size and layout of each resort, here are maps for Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans French Quarter (FQ is the purple section at the bottom of the map, the top bit is RS).

Hope this helps a bit. Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for your input onelittlespark! You were so helpful before our trip last December. :)

Here's a link to the DIS site page about CBR, including a page of resort photos.

We have stayed at both resorts in the past, though not recently. Both are very nice resorts and I don't think you would have any problem at either.
The pool at CBR is being renovated - I'm not sure what the final result will be or when it will be done, but you should be able to find someone on the resort board who knows. Both resorts have hot tubs.

No problem, that's what I come here for (that, and to relive my previous Disney holidays ;))! :thumbsup2

If you stay at CBR you might want to request a room reasonably close to the main building, to save your ECV batteries. If you do, make sure you state it is "for medical reasons", as I think they allocate these requests first. It's been a long time since I stayed at CBR, but it is a lovely resort.

POFQ is also lovely, and I've stayed there much more recently. The layout of the resort means the distances are smaller, so it would be easier just to pop to the food court, or the shop that at CBR.

One (completely random) thought about FQ that I just had is this: be careful about getting stuck on the sidewalks. When I was there a couple of years ago, before I was using a wheelchair full time (so still had fairly weedy arm muscles), I decided to go exploring on my own. I had gone three sides of a rectangle on the sidewalk, before turning a corner to find a lamppost slap bang in the middle of the path. Of course, the curb-drop had to be just beyond this post, which I couldn't get past. I had to go all the way back around the three sides of the rectangle, before I found another drop! That was an awful lot of strain on my weedy little arms! Of course, now I would just reverse off the curb, but I was a bit of a beginner back then. Basically, the moral of this story is: stay on the roads where possible. The only traffic along them is the golf-cart type buggies Mousekeeping use.

Anyway, I'm rambling, blame the brain-fog. I think basically, the two resorts are fairly equal in amenities, so it's just down to resort size, room size (though I don't think the difference is huge), layout and theming. They're both Disney resorts, so you'll have a fabulous stay, whichever one you choose! :goodvibes

The rooms at CBR that are the closest to the food court and the shops are 'preferred view' and if you want one of those closer rooms, you do need to pay extra for the 'preferred room'. Those closer rooms are not given for medical reasons.

I'm not sure, but I thought someone wrote that the hot tub accessible to POFQ is actually at PORS, which would be a long hike. Otherwise, I agree with everyone else. Can anyone confirm? Also, if you do choose CBR, I would ask for a ground floor room in Martenique, which is closest to Port Royale, where everything is. HIH
