Which mini-DV

I had asked this question before and lost the info. I would like to purchace a camcorder(my first) and I was given the numer of a Sony one. Not a digital, just mini DV. Would anyone have any ideas as to which would be the best one at a reasonable cost to get? Also, is the mini DV the best way to go? I have a Canon A630 digital and am looking for a case for it. Is there a specific one that is better than the others. Looking for something very compact.
