Thanks everyone for your help. It's taken me this long to make up my mind.

Canon EFS 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens. I will have it by the end of the week, and try it out this weekend, properly at DD's birthday party in another week, then take it away.

Great lens. Have one for my 60D and T2i and love it. You will be very pleased.

The lens came today - really quick service, overnight! After work I had class so I only perhaps had 10 minutes at the most. So here are two really quick pics from home!

This is my dog Minnie. The only trick she can do is tilt her head on command! I didn't fire the flash, and the room was fairly dark, so I'm pretty happy with result. I tried some noise reduction in Lightroom but I need to get used to that first. ISO is 6400 f/2.8
