We ( 2 adults, 2 kids and a small dog) are planning on renting a KOA Kamping Kabin for a weekend this summer. We have only ever camped one night and not familiar with it.

Which KOA do you reccommend and why? Right now we are considering Brighton, Toronto West, Niagara, Barrie, or Marmora.

We live near Peterborough and don't want to drive any more then 2.5 hours.

Any info. would be really appreciated.

Thank you

We've stayed in a few KOA cabins and had lots of fun. We love the Port Huron Michigan ones but that is maybe too far for you- it is a huge campground with lots to do- rental bikes, cabins have air conditioning there- next door is go carting/mini golf. Barrie always looked good to me too but have not been there. I would suggest a two room one even though you would fit in a one room one as it is much nicer to have the space. The cabins come with nothing......they have hydro, beds but no bedding, no fridge etc unless you rent a "lodge" they have more in them. It is a LOT of packing-it would be SO nice if they provided some bedding even some pillows! I like the KOAs that have camping kitchens....not sure if Barrie does....but they are covered areas that have cooktops, and sinks for washing dishes. Biggest thing to look for is how close bathrooms are-that part I hate especially walking to one in the middle of the night! Your dog most likely won't be allowed inside the cabin. Take lots of extension cords/power bars- we take electric griddle/frying pan and cook out on the picnic table- have little BBQ too and we take our pop up gazebo to put over the table. The lodges that more and more are putting up look really nice and we toured some in Port Huron and they were really nice......but so pricey....we stay in a 5 bedroom villa in Florida for cheaper!!!:)

Barrie - my parents have a seasonal site at the Barrie KOA. There are two nice pools, beach volleyball, a playground, and quite a few activites. There is a grocery store about five minutes away if you have forgotten anything.

They are popular, it is good to see you planning in advance. Here is the link for Amy and Tony's KOA in Barrie:

They also have amazing pizza and I see there is a new pet playground.

If you end up at the Barrie KOA send me a PM and I'll try and visit the weekend you are there. It would be nice to meet another DISer.

We like the Cookstown KOA just south of Barrie. They have the lodges as well as the Kabins. My friend stayed in the Kabins and she was allowed to take her dog in. We like it because besides being next to the outlet mall it is the closest one to Wonderland. We have season passes there (which is less than the cost of 2 visits)and often just go to the waterpark for the afternoon. It is about a 20 min drive from the campground

We like the barrie or gravenhurst koa. barrie has a few more things to do but it depends on the type of camping u like. we prefer tent camping but if you dont have a tent the cabins are a great way to try it without investing in a tent. Im getting pretty good at packing us up for camping but if your interested i could give you my equipment check list and i also have meal plans depending on length of stay. Just remember to have fun!

We should plan a Dis meet at the Barrie KOA :). I should talk to the owners, they are Disney fans themselves and have camped at Fort Wilderness.

If anyone is interested let me know and I can persue it.

Barrie also has kabins, kottages and I think they have lodges now.

that would be awesome to meet up. I will book it this week and let you know!!!!:woohoo:

The first weekend I can go to the KOA is probably July 16 weekend. Weekends of June 25 to 27 and July 2 to 4 are definite that I can not be there.

I can be there the weekend of June 4 or 11.

We ended up booking the KOA Marmora - They have 2 brand new 31 ft. trailers for rent there so we booked one. They are letting us bring our dog so the kids are pretty excited about that. They also have a indoor pool/hot tub as well as an outdoor pool and some hiking trails so it should be a fun weekend.

Thanks everyone for the advice.:goodvibes
